how many ex programmers are on ET

I took a stockbroker's job and turned down MSFT in 1986. I was contracting there and it was apparent that they were making an offer. My manager looked at me real funny when I told him that I already had the series 7 and I am moving on. Perhaps it was a chance of a lifetime to become real...

    Open Source Backtesting Software?

errr.. with open source you can't make any money....why would an ex-programmer like me bother? P.S. I own WLD 3.0 and Tradestation 2000i and between the two I am happy. I often used excel to create an open source illusion when someone did not own the above two....

You are talking about the Texas Hill Country....it is very nice.... GOOG: Bubble or This Time It's Different?

I have casually looked at some leaps for GOOG and consider buying some PUTS after it breaches USD 400+ (or if it can't cross for a long time.....) How can I determine which strike OTM options to buy and what year? I like to run some analytics for free.....

do interest rate hikes hurt trend followers?

err...no because any effect of any rate hike will be anticipated and be represented in the trend hence the trend follower would just ride it out with the adjustments. If the hike would result in a non trending equities market (like right now) - a trend follower would just go fishing until things...

GOOG: Bubble or This Time It's Different?

A definitive bubble except a lot of people are getting rich and more will get broke before it is over..... Here is my take - watch it like a hawk and short it if you can at the right time and the right place..... P.S. who is their auditor anyways? Arthur Anderson?

Is moderate inflation good for the markets?

I am thinking with very low inflation when bonds yield at or over SP div. and earning gains the stock market can get dicey and weak...however if there is some inflation this could negate the bond/stock equilibrium and actually be good for the stocks....

eTrade is based in DC area?

Well our "former friend" was and still is the Treasurer and that is a quite a good job while it lasts. (as we found out from mutual acquaintances) The amount of relocation assistance and perks they got was quite amazing and reserved only to executives and seldom allotted to janitors... :)
