    Dell 1905FP

My answer to this question would be something along the lines of "how much do you really need to spend on a monitor?" Particularly if you are putting together a multi-monitor set-up. For example, I have my eye on eventually putting together a multi-monitor set-up for trading, would most...

    Dell 1905FP

As far as I know, there are two variants of the Dell monitor, and they both use Samsung panels. I think one model is rated at ~20ms, the other is rated at ~8ms. Anandtech has a detailed review of the Dell 1905 if you browse through their monitor reviews.

FYI - Barclays just launched 4 new Canadian ETFs...

XMA, XTR, XDV, XRB (all of these are now trading on the TSX). XTR in particular is very interesting, it's an "Income Trust Sector Index Fund", I believe it's the first ETF that I've seen thus far that consists of income trusts, could make for an interesting choice for high yield diversified...

    Oil...

It's interesting that high oil prices were constantly grabbing headlines, yet we hear very little when oil prices drop.

Do I need a financial calculator find YTM?

Well, it depends what you mean by a "standard calculator", for example it is pretty easy to calculate YTM with a TI-83. You are missing a variable though, you would also need to know the price of the bond in order to calculate YTM, assuming that you aren't buying at par.

    Chart watch - TMTA

Thanks for posting this, I've been keeping an eye on the TMTA charts. Did you read that "one good quarter does not make a turnaround" story on USAToday about TMTA? I actually e-mailed the author of that article, because it was clear that he didn't bother to do anything more than very cursory...

OIL: Gurus told me demand decreases as price increases

Also, you need to remember an important phrase - "all else being equal".

    intel p4 630 vs. amd 3200 venice

Well, I suppose it depends what you do with the system, but my experience has been that I was quite happy with even 512MB of RAM. I actually wanted to increase the amount of RAM specifically for gaming purposes (I just bought Battlefield 2 & Age of Empires III), so I picked up a stick of...

    intel p4 630 vs. amd 3200 venice

Regarding the concept of having an uber trading system, my line of thinking is somewhat different, though of course it comes down to personal choice. My idea for future trading PCs (I'm not currently an active trader) would be to focus new PC purchases on being a charting/web...

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

Don't get me wrong, I am certainly happy with the path that I have taken, and my future prospects look good. I have also been fortunate enough to have been able to work enough to put myself through school with minimal debt. Ironically the term "opportunity cost" was something that I think we...

    intel p4 630 vs. amd 3200 venice

AMD has come a long, long way over the past few years. I used to work in computer retail about 7-8 years ago, at which point AMD was actually a very poor choice. This wasn't due to their own chips, but was instead due to the terrible quality of the third-party chipsets that were required (the...

Is that it for the stock mkt rally?

I don't know, I was just browsing through some charts, and it looks like the QQQQs are consolidating below $42 or so. I'm not sure that I'm using the correct word for it, but the wedge that I have marked in on the chart is something I have found to be a reasonably high probability set-up.

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

I agree with the earlier poster that pointed out the opportunity cost of education, it is something that you need to think very, very carefully about. I'm slowly nearing completion of my bachelor's degree, I'm fortunate enough to have an excellent job right now, and my future job prospects...

Students make 18% by managing funds

Fair enough, though the fund that I was referring to is real money, approximately $800K. Unfortunately my work schedule didn't make it practical for me to get involved with the fund, but their portfolio selections are interesting. Of course, if you have been investing in Canadian income...

    Canadian Traders

I'm going to be looking into Questrade as well, I'm not aware of very many Canadian prop firms, and even fewer that allow remote trading.

How do prop firms tend to handle taxation?

Hello, I'm from Canada, and I realize that traders from other countries will have some answers that are not necessarily applicable for me, but how do prop firms tend to handle taxation? The specific arrangement would likely consist of me putting up some funds, with the prop firm providing...

    Undercapitalization

This is a very important point, and something that the original poster should take careful note of. I personally feel that trading should be approached as a business if one is looking to do so part-time or even full-time, and costs are a huge factor in whether or not you will be successful...

    AMTD Special Dividend

Thanks for posting this. I seem to recall this being mentioned in my risk management text (yes, I'm a uni student), but I think that this is determined by the options exchange, i.e. they can choose whether or not to adjust strike prices?

    AMTD Special Dividend

Without looking at any of the info about the stock, it does make sense that people would be buying puts on a dividend paying stock in anticipation of it going ex-dividend.
