Bitcoin forks: Money for nothing, sex for free

If you had to come up with a new currency, would you create one that requires the consumption of huge amounts of energy for it to work properly til the end of time? As much as I find bitcoin interesting, this seems like a fundamental flaw.

    Switching to Linux from Win10

You might consider turning off "features" in Windows 10 that can produce intermittent spotty performance. Disabling Windows Defender Real Time Protection. Disabling Windows Defender. Disabling Windows Updates. Disabling Cortana. Disabling Superfetch. Then you can control when you want to turn...

Institutional investors unhappy with tick size pilots

Because IB would have routed it to the exchange where the bid was located first. I've had similar experiences because there was a quote that was erroneous and persistent (never went away unless you tried to hit it, and when you lifted your order the quote would come back).

Institutional investors unhappy with tick size pilots

It is still possible that it was a quoting error by IB, rather than an actual bid. There is no way the bid would be able to react to your order that quickly. The simplest explanation is a quoting error. If you give me the symbol and time I can look it up on time and sales and see what the best...

Institutional investors unhappy with tick size pilots

Simplest explanation is that the quotes were stale from IB and they didn't exist in the first place.

Incorporating as a personal day trader

If you don't qualify for trader tax status, can you incorporate a trading business? That doesn't seem right to me, although I am not sure. You should contact greentradertax.

Incorporating as a personal day trader

Assuming you qualify for trader tax status, you do not need to incorporate to be able to deduct trading expenses. Your "corporate structure" would default to a sole proprietorship using your own name (unless you wanted something more complicated).

    1099b Questions, Please Reply

And then there are CPAs who would have no clue with a trader tax return. There is no way I would let anyone else do my taxes at this point.

    Two tax questions

Form 1040, Schedule A, line 1 is where you would include health insurance premiums. Your total medical expenses must be greater than 10% of your AGI before you receive any benefit.

    Two tax questions

From my experience, the odds of getting a question answered satisfactorily from the IRS is around 25%.

This coin I heard about called USD

I know you are being sarcastic, but how can you argue your point with a straight face after I bring up those points. I am by no means anti-bitcoin, but there are things about it that bother me such as: 1. The enormous amount of energy it consumes in order to make it work. Surely there has to be...

This coin I heard about called USD

Except for the fact that Bitcoin can hard fork, thereby doubling the supply of coins overnight. Except for the fact that anyone can create a Bitcoin competitor and there could be a nearly infinite supply of these different coins. Your arguments really don't hold water when you look at it this way.

    Anyone have RIA?

Which is complete BS. The only thing it really means is if the person loses a lot of money, they still have more. Accredited investor stuff needs to be flushed down the toilet. Stop protecting people from themselves.

Took out a loan to transition to full-time trading. 24 years old.

Another method to save you from yourself is to trade a smaller version of the contract you are currently trading. Try trading USO or UCO/SCO with small size until you are consistently profitable. That way you have skin in the game, but your bleed rate will be a fraction of what it is right now.

The effect of cryptocurrency on FX ?

I'll bet that the FX speculative market will be alive and well 100 years in the future. Whether or not the FX market absorbs any ideas from cryptocurrencies is another matter.

Trading on Interactive brokers and currency conversion

Maybe I'm stupid, but don't you have currency risk regardless of your two scenarios? In the first scenario you convert EUR to USD, buy stock with USD, sell stock to get USD, and convert USD to EUR. Depending on the conversion rate at the start and end, you will obviously get a different...

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

I would be furious if my broker's algorithm allowed fills to "get away" because it was trying to mess around trying to save a penny on a limit order. If you were so intent on getting a fill at a lower price, then put the limit in for that price. Easy. As for authority figures, maybe spout your...
