GDP number - no way to be bullish?

You're right in the fact that all speculation anticipates a price move in your favor. Lets say XYZ company is about to announce earnings. Here's what I don't do - Buy XYZ before the announcement because I think earnings will be good. Here's what I do - After XYZ announces good earnings...

    Close that gap

How do we know that we haven't already put in a solid bottom? The S&P could have bottomed at 1168 on Oct 13. The candlestick pattern on that day was a hammer on good volume (a solid reversal signal). Since then it's had 3 higher highs and 3 higher lows.

GDP number - no way to be bullish?

I would not try to analyze the markets reaction to the GDP or try to figure out whether the market was going to reverse or not. I have a defined system that I use for a quick scalp trade when the S&P gaps up or down 4 points or more. If any of those 4 options occur, then the system would...

GDP number - no way to be bullish?

I doubt the political uncertainty is affecting the markets very much. The charges seem somewhat trivial to me. Since the VIX made a big move up today, I would expect to see more weakness early on Friday. Wouldn't be surprized to see it rally towards the close as the markets are...

actually I don't care how the market reacts to the GDP. I am more interested in trading the reaction than predicting it. cheers,

Daily Range: ER, ER2, NQ & YM

One of the reasons I trade the Russell futures is because I don't have to be concerned about monitoring the individual components. The 2000 companies in the index are mostly small cap stocks. So if one company has bad news, it still doesn't effect the index price to much degree. And it is...

Nearly a perfect up candlestick today

in the S&P daily chart. The low was the open for today The close was one tick off the high for the day Although this was one tick off from being a perfect up candlestick, I decided that was close enough to look at the recent history. I checked back over the past 2 years to see what...

    VIX down 13.6% today

Now that we're back on the happy side of the ledger, does anyone want to take a long term look at this trading system? I'm wondering how well it holds up over say, a ten year period. The VIX data I have goes back only 2 years. cheers,

    Traders who specialize in Shorting

What happens to shorties if we enter another long bull market? Could lead to poor results. A master trader feels no emotions and has no preferences. He is able to adapt to whatever market conditions currently apply.

    Traders who specialize in Shorting

Anyone who only concentrates on going short is missing out on a whole lot of good investment opportunities. I believe any good trader is equally focused on recognizing both long and short investments.

    What the market is saying

Agreed that the Nasdaq is strong right now and is the best place for longs. To me, the question is..did we hit a low point on Oct 13th or will we go farther down? With energy prices heading lower, inflation worries could recede. But will political scandal & uncertainty take us still...

    what do we think, NOW?

With the Nasdaq, the Semis, the Russell 2k all having very good days, I can't see thinking hard about shorting today. 10year Treasury rates are down, oil up a bit but still showing weakness. Breadth is 2/1 NYSE Adv/Dec 2135/1032 don't over think this.

9/20/05: The Only Direction To Trade Is...

With all due respect, I disagree. How can insults and ridicule be considered positive? Elevating one's ego at the expense of others is a primitive and Neanderthal approach. What about the concept of win-win? RubberBird, I am always appreciative of your market input. But to be fair, the...
