Impact of new rules on brokers

I almost never participated in this discussion, arguing that the market will adapt. We saw it first on EliteTrader with more and more questions regarding futures trading. And then actually traders trying this for real. A very good evolution in my opinion. Now, the next step. I don`t know if...

    multi-monitor vs wide screen

bronks, precisely. it is the same resolution, therefore you do not have more space (OK a little more because it is widescreen). so, several 4:3 flat screens are better than one widescreen.. that's all I am saying. I have a feeling size was mistaken with resolution. size does not matter...

    multi-monitor vs wide screen

the space problem is not really in term of size, but resolution. A bigger screen has the same resolution (these 50 or 70 inches screens) than a smaller one. Therefore you can not squeeze what would be on 6 screens in there (which was your original comparison). neo

    multi-monitor vs wide screen

i think you are better off several flat panels (not widescreen) less cost and more space. remember that a widescreen is only slightly wider than a regular screen. You get nowhere near the same space with 1 widescreen than with 2 screens. granted, flat lcd screens are better than crtubes...

How do you define a trend?

the definition remains. to have the MA moving up you need highs to go up, reverse it for down trend. so both ways are valid. however I prefer 'higher highs' definition because it is fundamentally correct (people are willing to pay more and more and are not willing to discount. that's an...

    Mini Dow Trading Begins Today

this was my worry with the contract : volume. but it is brand new.. give it time, it is an interesting contract imo. neo

    EMINI NQ vs. ES

outside hours, spreads is not the biggest problem. (foreign countries hedge with the futures). the bigger issue is volume. moves are erratic and you might have trouble getting out quickly. after hours are nice for gap plays or news or to take profits at an extreme price. however, imho the...

    Trading Support and Resistance

you almost have no choice : you need breakouts and support/resistance strategy. maybe not active at the same time but always ready to get into action. when a market is consolidating sideways, all breakouts are fakes (by definition). If you only trade this way you are chopped to death. in...

    Building a day trading system

I agree technical analysis, the stuff publicly available, is always lagging. However, you need to understand it.. it helps in order to filter systems.. the usual error is to use these things (TA) for entry. price patterns, support and resistance and far better ways to trade imo. I would tend...

    Mini Dow Trading Begins Today

DT-waw that's a good point of course. However, I would not mind scalp this new mini if there is enough volume. Also I did not compare the leverage but that is a very important factor for traders new to futures. neo

    Holding onto Profits

Nice post Robert. I would consider applying your approach to my trading. It is balanced and evolutive. This shows again that trading is not just entry, it is the management of the entire process on a long period of time (even when you hold trades for 30 seconds). I like the quote 'I am a very...

    can we short this ????

This is so true zBoy.. That's why I stopped long term investments and studied trading (while arguably that's the same thing : trading. but it's another story). I was too often too early, and that brings only losses not cash. Besides the lack of discipline (sticking to the rules)...

    can we short this ????

a trend is a trend. until proven the contrary the trend is down. now we are likely to see a so called retest, if indeed this market is really trying to reverse is months long down trend. In E Wave theory that would be a wave 2. so shorting is reasonable. specially since it is hard to believe...

    EMINI NQ vs. ES

is one better than the other ? that depends on what you want to do. differences ? well, I think the only one objectively is volume. ES has more volume at any given time. Although it does not move that much, but I have seen, even recently NQ dies with very little price change because of lack...

    IB improvements

Def, Babak did you get a chance to read this and forward ? any info would be appreaciated.. IB market depth is very slow compared to Island or CME [see http://207.121.190.247/WebQuote/fortune50a.html ] * Is it possible to increase the poll speed of IB JTWS so market depth is refreshed...

Can you make a living trading futures?

10000 is about $50000 of buying power (leverage) with NQ. leverage is much lower than it was because of the crash. however, it is still pretty high. that's good and that's evil. good since it means you are moving virtually $50K so more reward on them. but it means as you know, bigger losses...
