Is there ever a time when a marketable limit order is preferrable to a market order?

Thanks! Should I use stop limit orders for protective stops, instead of stop orders, too? Once stop orders are triggered, they will be exposed to the same risk as market orders. If so, how do you balance the risk between holding your position you want to close for too long and suffering huge...

Is there ever a time when a marketable limit order is preferrable to a market order?

Suppose you want to enter the market immediately. Then you have two choices, marketable limit orders and market orders. Which one do you prefer? I don't see any advantages of marketable limit orders because they may not get a fill immediately.

Is it possible to have a basket of limit orders all-or-none?

That makes sense. Thanks for your input.

Is it possible to have a basket of limit orders all-or-none?

In pairs trading, two positions must be entered simultaneously. Getting a partial fill, or worse yet, a fill in only one of them will completely change your P/L with unlimited risk. Is it possible to place two limit orders to enter that are all-or-none? What about a basket of limit orders...

Does the stop price affect the fill price?

Does the stop price affect the fill price?

Suppose I have a long position in a stock currently trading at $9.05 with a protective stop at $9.00. One way to liquidate the position immediately is to raise the stop price to the last price. If I raised the stop price very high such as $50 to trigger the stop order, instead of $9.05...

    2% Rule

Thanks. Another thing, if you started with $8K in a cash account, and bought $6K worth of a stock which grew to $8K, how much of $10K should you risk in the next trade with the 2% rule in effect? Conversely, what if the stock dropped to $5K? How much of $7K should you risk?

    2% Rule

The example assumes this is the only trading account you have. There's no other source of trading capital. Let's say you started with $10000.

    2% Rule

When you apply the 2% rule, do you take 2% of trading capital or current cash balance to caculate the amount to risk? For example, if you have $8000 worth of stock and $2000 in cash, do you risk 2% of $2000 or 2% of $10000? Thanks.

    What's the word for this?

Thanks! When you cancel an entry order, can we say that the money is unencumbered?

    What's the word for this?

In a cash account, when you place an order to buy a security, the money required to fill the order is "locked". Suppose you have $10,000 in your account. If you place a buy order of 100 shares of a stock at $20, you still have $10,000, but $2,000 is locked and only $8,000 is available...

Does TWS support a time-based stop order?

Thanks, how do you configure one on TWS?

Is there any term for this?

Most day traders will go flat before market close, rather than at close because of liquidity. For example, some stock traders close out all their positions by 3:55PM, not 4PM. What do you call this time, 3:55PM in this example? Thanks.

Does TWS support a time-based stop order?

I want to close out my position if neither the profit target nor the stop loss are hit within a given period of time. Does TWS have a stop market order that is triggered after a certain time? Thanks

What is pre-open in the futures market?

I'm new to futures trading. I noticed that there are pre-open hours each day in the futures market. For example the pre-open begins at 17:45 for Crude Oil Financial Futures. What exactly is pre-open? Is it similar to the pre-market in stocks trading? Can orders be filled in the futures pre-open...

Does IB allow stop orders for stocks to be triggerred in extended hours?

This is a re-post since I posted the old one on the wrong forum. :( Is it possible for stop orders for U.S. stocks to be triggerred in the pre-market and after-hours market? I'm not talking about stop-limit orders, but stop orders. My guess is no, but I'd like confirmation on that...

    trading hours for futures

I've never trade futures, so bear with me. I noticed that some futures markets have unusual trading hours. For instance, E-mini S&P 500 Futures & Options are traded from 15:30 to 16:30 and then from 17:00 to 15:15. I'm just curious why there's a separate, 1-hour session each day, rather than...

Interactive Brokers: stop orders for stocks in extended hours

I realize that, but I'll need stops in very unique situations.
