fox "bulls n bears"-the worst show ever!

Bulls 'n Bears show. Only the one being discussed on this thread. You do read English? Last time I watched it I turned it off at 10:15, and they still hadn't discussed anything about the stock market. I already gave you specifics about Cramer, right down to the stock he recommended and I...

fox "bulls n bears"-the worst show ever!

I don't even watch the Fox stuff anymore. I did for a few years, and stopped when it took a full 15 minutes before they got off of whatever political point they were making that week and finally got around to discussing stocks. Cramer, OTOH, discusses stocks all the time, throughout his show...

    Do Trendlines work?

Strunk would have objected to that entire sentence, actually. It was a deliberate choice.

fox "bulls n bears"-the worst show ever!

I watch Bloomberg, and it's certainly better, all around, but Cramer makes some very good points in between the flying chairs. He does that stuff for the obvious reason that it makes money for CNBC. Personally, I have nothing against making money, so I therefore really don't care if he throws...

    Do Trendlines work?

liyoung, et alia: a few things. All of you need to read Strunk's. You all take 10 words, big ones at that, to say what you mean, when three or four will do. Secondly, this is for the point, if you don't know what a frequency...

fox "bulls n bears"-the worst show ever!

Care to expand on that answer a bit? I did you the courtesy of answering your question, after all. I didn't expect to get hit with a pat bit of sarcasm.

    Do Trendlines work?

I like clarity. So, let me be clear: statistics can clearly show you the channels. You can use regression, or you can use frequency distributions. Either will do. Or both. Both are objective, and can therefore be backtested easily. I have no idea, having read any number of posts from the...

fox "bulls n bears"-the worst show ever!

I like Cramer. I also like Fast Money. This is because both focus exclusively on the markets, and keep extraneous stuff to a minimum, which is as it should be. I started out getting interested in the markets through Rukeyser. My dad was watching and I passed through the living room one Friday...

    Suggestions please for backup programme?

I use ibackup, another online backup provider. For backing up to cd or dvd, nothing special; I just copy/paste. I rely on ibackup to keep me going even if I crash, and it has served me well.

GOLD upside breakout 1/23/07 - your thoughts?

Argh! You're right. Sorry about that.

GOLD upside breakout 1/23/07 - your thoughts?

 Why do you care, in that case?

GOLD upside breakout 1/23/07 - your thoughts?

This little rally (during which I was long for a while, and have an OK 5% profit) is over, IMO. The sideways chop since last May's mini-bubble continues.

"The Retail Investor Is Just Not Trading As Much Right Now"

You might be right about that last one. All I heard about today was buying stuff cheap, cleaning it up, and reselling it for a profit on Ebay. Hmm...

Are you worried about a correction/end on the gold 'bubble'?

Some actual facts: 1 - Trade-weighted Federal Reserve Major Currency Index, Monthly: http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/TWEXMMTH?&cid=15 Note that the dollar has been, as that cited article states, perched precariously on the 80 line for a while. I don't know what happens if it...

    Quantitative Methods

OK then. Me, I'd give my right arm (full disclosure: I'm a leftie) for accurate historical data. I expect to get bad data from a free source. I don't expect to get it from my broker. Bunch of crooks. Lazy crooks, at that.

    OBV on balance volume

I used to use it, sort of. I would add/subtract volume as those articles say, and then see if the sum was higher or lower than a moving average of previous sums. I found other things worked better, though, and haven't used it in a while. It occurs to me that you could accomplish something...

GOLD upside breakout 1/23/07 - your thoughts?

Situation here is reminiscent, to me, of 1999 and 2000. Breakout in the fall because of the signing of the first Washington Agreement, preceded and followed by sideways trading. A lot of folks got bullish because of the signing of that agreement, but that bullishness turned out to be premature...

    Open Letter to Interactive Brokers

I really should know better. I filled out an application, and put in an ACATS request to transfer assets, specified partial, and put in one of my positions. Now I'm being prevented from adding any others from my existing account because it says, correctly, that I've already entered a request...
