It should be okay but you’ll need to be more prudent. The lack of such tangential products should imply a greater risk premia.

    Another “what’s your edge” thread

That’s not an edge. Those are tactics. A strategy: “High momentum stocks should outperform the market, I want to own those” A tactic: “I buy stocks in uptrends because those tend to persist” An edge: “Stocks that have had low institutional ownership and that have recently beat and raised...

    Order Flow Trading In 2022

Managers who track indices are good to assess how non-economic actors are positioned. This results in some pretty well known trading anomalies such as index inclusion and deletions (people front run passive funds who need to buy the stock — this is a legit strategy though alpha is not so great...

    Order Flow Trading In 2022

that's not how it works. Fund managers publish their mandates all the time. Think of the name of many of these funds -- "Vanguard Small Cap Growth Fund" etc. Furthermore, in their summary prospectus they'll often include more information about what they look for in companies. Funds don't have...

    Order Flow Trading In 2022

Generally there’s no value in order flow, though positioning is very useful. If you know that a Blackrock growth fund opened a new position in a company and it recently reported earnings and raised guidance, you can infer subsequent flow into that stock.

    Psychology behind Chart patterns?

Your brain sees patterns where there aren’t. There are some truths in certain levels (options pinning), and momentum has a clear impact, but reading too much into patterns and price action is a great way to go crazy. This idea that behind every tick is intention is stupid… markets move on...

    Advice to new a trader

Focus on key skills, have a basic understanding of macroeconomics & asset pricing, and spend a lot of time looking for non-beta sources of returns. Once you have determined that you have found some type of harvestable return, build a due diligence process to avoid catastrophic losses.

How to become better at Technical Analysis?

It’s best to avoid TA and charts. I would build a foundation in asset pricing (what drives returns in the first place?) and then learn how to evaluate the market implied outcome. From there you can add to your style by incorporating other useful analyses (but make sure you research them and...

Do all analysts use diluted earnings for estimated EPS?

yeah you look at current diluted shares outstanding and then model share issuance/buyback based upon what the company has said.

The Mechanics of Running the Book?

You can follow the tick index to approximate whether a big move in volume is happening all at once (potentially a buy program). Most trades happen during open and close, so you need to look at the pct change vs. seasonally adjusted expected level.

Anyone else STRONGLY disagree with what the Fed is doing?

Then you think Fed funds futures are a short (you think yield needs to go higher), and would sell US2Yr bonds. The impact of that to long-duration assets would keep you short or underweight.

Are after-hours moves in stocks more likely to be reversed?

NY Fed has a good paper discussing overnight drift. Google it. :-)

Anyone else STRONGLY disagree with what the Fed is doing?

Look at what the Fed says and what base rates suggest about the path of inflation. Core is driven by shelter inflation which lags market rents & housing prices by ~12 months — this means core cpi won’t peak until end of this year / early next year. The fed knows this and reflects this in their...

    TA is BS?

Most hedge funds attempt to do this nowadays through vol targeting and managing their daily/weekly var. The challenge is in estimating future volatility and then synthesizing it through your variance co-variance matrix. Typically there’s software that’ll do it for you, but this is much more...
