    Spreadsheet Streaming Quote Downloads

Excel already provides this. Older versions (pre Excel 2000) had PC Quotes support built in. Just do a search on stock quotes or equivalent in Excel. I belive it was removed from the default install. Here is link to how it works...

    Limit or Market orders

babe714: I think you stop limit approach makes sense. If you give it 2 times the spread of freedom, it seems like you should get filled most of the time. Just the other day I got creamed on LLY with s short fill 23 cents from the quote at the time I entered the order. This is rare, though.

    Stop loss on IB

None of my NYSE stops have executed over the last two days. The NYSE price quote trades right though my stop and typically after 2 minutes I'll cancel and just do a market order. The market orders typically fills in seconds, and with stops having precedence over market orders at the NYSE this...

    Limit or Market orders

in my experience, it's virtually impossible to short on anything but a market order on the NYSE. I know others disagree but I've found it more expensive not to get in, than losing a few cents. Re the first 10 mins: maybe that would be too risky with market orders. I only trade after the...

Sources - State of the art trading systems

any good Dell or Gateway will do just fine. Both have great deals with LCD's, lost of memory, disk etc. They all OEM intel mother boards, so in reality it doesn't make much difference what you get. I would avoid Compaq. I just don't know anyone with a Compaq who haven't sworn never to buy...

    laptop screen flickering

it is very likely the back-light that is going. Depending on manufacturer this can be fairly cheap to fix. LCD should not "flicker" since they don't have any of the usual scan problems CRTs have (no 75 Hz vs 60 Hz) Contact your manufacturer and ask; they have seen this before.

    Equity Curve

here is another way you could have optimized ... the selection of your two stocks. I generally want systems to work on most of the securities in a sector (e.g. SOX) to consider it viable/stable. It's easy for a system to work on one or two securities by chance. I generally like systems to work...

    QQQ traders...

QQQ are tough in my opinion. If you take a typical 10 to 15 minute swing on 5 min bars, the ATR10 is only marginally larger (by visual inspection). That makes the noise almost as large as the move, which makes trading difficult. I mostly use QQQ's counter-trend to even out my portfolio...

Great link - thank you. Just in case someone doesn't know. Farmer and Doyle's adventures into Chaos and finance is chronicled in "the predictors". http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0805057579/qid=1010786414/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_3_1/103-0287526-2504637 I've enjoyed reading the book several...

    Equity Curve

PatG, The premise for a systems tends to deteriorate over time. In particular, if you have too many parameters the systems tend to do worse and worse the farther away from the "release day" you get. I suggest the following: 1. do an equity curve for each system and see how it looks...

    Recommendations on Options Software

Any recommendation on good options analytics software ? I'm looking for something that allows me to compare various options for volatility, based on strike, time to expiration etc to better determine which options to buy/sell at any given time. I don't need real-time connectivity, as I...

    eSignal - new versions.

eSignal_Support: In terms of setting up a user forum, anyone care to comment on the pros/cons of the various forums currently out there? Before we decide on a specific type of community forum, I'd love to hear feedback from users. Yahoo eGroups work fairly well. Yahoo Clubs are very slow...

    January Trading Journals

Hitman, Just a few words of support: I've truly enjoyed your journals. Before I became a systematic trader I sometimes had the same "question everything" that I sense in your post. Didn't you write a 30 page manual for new traders ? How about going back to basics and follow your...

    Don's Opening's Journal....

Don, Maybe this is just me, but if you want to continue to post your daily results, I think it's appropriate that you explain to all of us how you trade the open. What's the value of knowing that you made $900 ? I don't buy the argument that it's to complicated (per your previous...

    eSignal - new versions.

Thank you for joining this message board and answering our questions. eSignal is a great product that I've used for 4 years straight now (along with others). The thing to keep in mind re trading is that I really don't want to fiddle with the software to "clear" MRU lists, load the dataManager...

    Trading Simulators- Worth it?

cybertraders simulator is good as far as the software goes. It is NOT accurate as far as the fills goes. Depending on trading style, exact fill may not be that significant. This is a particular issue when shorting, since it's often difficult to actually even get stock anywhere close to the...
