    Intel a buy?

Why you say that mervyn? Not saying I disagree, just don't know that much about the companies.

    Intel a buy?

Waaaaay down from highs. Check. Just slashed dividends massively. Check. Seems to have chips out/coming out that can be a match, or more than a match, for AMD. At least for general desk top use. But don't quote me on this last one - I don't pay much attention to the chip space, saw someone...

GLCN 10/14/2010 -0.95% IRR 51.43% Max DD Looks like another one for Maverick's short thread - not just bad performance, but also over an extended time period. No track records of dividends, just one paid in recent past.

AMOM 5/21/19 11.26% IRR 40.03% Max DD Not horrible, but also looks like very small dividends.

REVS. 9/25/19 9.93% IRR 37.85% Max DD Not horrible, but also not the high dividend that is stated.

I'm gonna start going through these ph1l. Maverick I think it was did a thread recently about ETFs/CEFs that were horrible and possibly good to short. I suspect many of these may land on that list! First one - OILK - started trading 9/28/16, and an investment in it since then would have...

So, USDJPY, I seem to remember testing MLP prices awhile back, and finding out that they were horrid performers over time on average. But don't quote me on that, let me run some new tests, will follow up. Thanks.

Mr. Turtle, is there anything you look for to see that it is time for them to be a "good trade"? Like (even more than normal) underperformance versus the SPY over some extended time period or something like that? Thanks!

    SPY versus SPLV and RSP

Indeed, I was worried just like you were when I started doing the calculations about the easiest way to build in the dividends and what not. Before someone told me it was already done for me! Makes truly comparing two or more securities, including ones that pay dividends and ones that do not...

Gas-Powered Cars Cheaper to Fuel than Electric in Late 2022

I thought so too. Were there not like "eMPG" ratings or something like that were supposed to give you the equivalent of MPGs based on some kind of conversion ratio? They would typically be over 100, whereas even hybrid ICEs might get in the 50s or lower, that sort of thing?

    SPY versus SPLV and RSP

Assuming reinvesting dividends in the underlying security makes the most sense to me when comparing two or more securities to see which might be preferred over the others.

    SPY versus SPLV and RSP

Look at JEPI, here: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/JEPI/history?period1=1645379507&period2=1676915507&interval=1d&filter=history&frequency=1d&includeAdjustedClose=true On 2/1 it paid a dividend of .444. Its closing price on 1/31 was 55.47. On 2/1 it was 55.04. So it was clearly dropped by...

    SPY versus SPLV and RSP

(adjusted close day two minus adjusted close day one) / adjusted close day one is % gain for day two. Everything (I think!) is already built into the adjusted closes so no need to add anything back, etc. I would love to learn I'm wrong, then there might actually be something that can beat...

Finance.yahoo.com i download the spreadsheets from the historical data. I go by adjusted stock prices, which i was told takes into account dividends, stock splits, etc.

Why such high short borrow rates for the VIX ETNs?

Blueraincap. So, I did some testing on SVOL. It started trading on 5/13/21 it looks like. If you had invested in it then, your IRR return would have been 6.39%, and your max drawdown would have been 15.95%. That compares VERY favorably to SPY over that period, which had those numbers of...

    Got it blueraincap. Thanks!

    Favorite ETF/ETNs/CEFs for yield

Since 3/17/2015, when it started trading, holding it would have gotten you a negative 1.39% IRR, with a max drawdown of 47.37%. Not good, although we really need to find some way to normalize these results taking into (presumably) the strengthening dollar versus other currencies over that time...

    Favorite ETF/ETNs/CEFs for yield

VEA started trading 7/26/07. Buying then would have an IRR of only 3.67%, versus a max DD of 60.69%. Compare that to SPY numbers of 10.26% of 55.19%, respectively, over same period. VEA = no bueno. VWO started trading 3/10/2005. Its numbers based on that date are a bit better, 5.43% and...

ILF - this looks more like an equity fund to me, although it does have significant dividend payments. Latin America focused. It began trading 10/26/2001. 100% of your account in ILF starting on that date would have obtained you an IRR of 8.22% against a max drawdown of 67.48% (ouch!), for a...
