Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

Ok, thanks for the replies 1) Must be that my broker just sucks... I will have to check on this 2) Seems unfair that my sell orders could get seen by those with big bids and they would have time to react and pull those big bids before my sell orders could get filled. 3) So if I have that...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

So in that case I placed a 1.58 buy order, which is sent to Etrade, to be filled whereever anyone can sell me shares at 1.58. Looking at the order book, you would THINK that retail (who can only bid 1.58 in this case, not 1.5801) would get filled. WRONG ANSWER! The next sell that comes...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

You are correct in that those subpenny orders cannot be DISPLAYED on the order book on prices > 1.00 However, in stocks such as ETRM, when it was trading at, say 90c, then there was no regulation of not displaying subpenny orders, yet as a retail trader, we were not allowed to input subpenny...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

So basically, here is a screen shot from back when I was trading PARD at 1.58... you wouldn't be able to SEE the 1.5801 order, but it would be in a dark pool where, technically, it was not quoted on the orderbook. But that order would always be there, stepping in front of your order, and getting...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

Ok, I guess technically, you are correct that 1.0101 CANNOT APPEAR on US equity exchanges. However, it can be present in dark pools, where it can be TRADED. Which essentially means the same thing... Those subpenny orders can not be QUOTED but they can be TRADED...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

Thanks for the reply... but I am talking more about the situation where I put in my buy order at 1.01 when the bid/ask is, say 1.00 by 1.02, and then the order book should look like this 1.01 X 1.02 (with my 1.01 as the best bid). This is how it looks for about 0.2 seconds, then...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

Then is this following post not correct? Seems to say you are wrong http://quantinvestor.wordpress.com/2010/01/09/sub-penny-pricing-is-it-price-improvement-or-front-running/ "3) Another way that sub-penny prices can occur is from a dark pool. A “smart router” that manages a market...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

So you are saying that these high speed computer algorithms that insert sub-penny bids just over your bid (by 1/100th of a penny) is not HFT? Ok, well, whatever you are calling it, it is screwing the retail investor out of profits by making it an unfair playing field. Fortunately, I still...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

If I am misusing the term HFT then I apologize. What I am referring to is what is obviously a computer algorithm that is jumping in front of your orders by 1/100th of a PENNY, which means that your bid at 1.0100 will never fill, since 1.0101 is actually a slightly better bid. This happens...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

Nope, this happens to me MANY times, and I have started to have to call into Ameritrade or Etrade to get this rectified... my brother has had it happen to him at least on a daily basis, and then when he calls into Ameritrade to complain, they call down to the broker, and then they admit they...

Tradeworx' defense of their HFT strategies

Dude, sorry to put it bluntly, but either you have never been sub-pennied, or you are an idiot. There are many stocks I have traded, in the ~1.00$ range, that are subpennied. What does this mean? well, let's say that ABK is trading at 1.01 bid by 1.02 ask. And lets say you want to get a fill...

Oh, I am just curious with 2 massive days like the past 2, how much you are up this year... I trade big board stocks, mostly microcap bios (under 50-100M$) Unless those two days were just lucky trades, then I would expect you would be up easily over 1M$ this year... ...just humor me and...

    Trader P/L 2010

Hey if you are headed in the right direction that is all that matters... my trading accounts were combined at about 12,000$ in Nov 2008, and I have traded my way all the way up to the current value (more than 50X return) in 18 months (of course, it is less now that I had to take out a bunch of...

    trading addiction

I think it is possible to be addicted to trading, even though you are successful... I spend WAAAAY too much time thinking about trades and watching L2, probably to the point that I am addicted... The fact that I am up 450,000$ this year still doesn't change the fact that I am addicted and I...

    Trader P/L 2010

Someone pm'ed me a question about why my Gains/Losses screenshot only shows 100 or 200 shares, it is because it is cropped, and would otherwise be about 2 pages long. I attached the actual trade sizes from one of my 20K blocks I traded with. I had broken it up into 2 orders of 10K each...
