Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Spin, Now that's talking. Finally, another pearl of wisdom. I think you nail it here. Not losing is the first thing, I believe that's Warren Buffett who said likewise. Cheers, TJ

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

What do you mean "make a market"? If your question is "Can I trade retail with (or despite?) my MM experience?", I guess the response is "time will tell". I don' know, and that's why I have minuscule ambitions.

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

OK, let me clarify couple of things: 1) My FX experience is a totally different ballgame: I was in the market maker business. We pocketed the bid-ask, so be net positive wasn't the challenge it is for me now, which is why I need to learn from you guys. Others mentioned change in technology...

    Big D, Noted, thanks.

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Big D, Thanks, sounds like good advice (except, that is, for the period May to September last year, where whoever would do that would have paid through the nose, but I'd be suspicious of something working ALWAYS). One question though: Why would I bother with SPY with higher commish and...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

As I said in previous posts, I have been a new trader since September 1980, except from October 2002 until last month, where I wasn't a trader at all. Thanks for the tip anyway, I may one day quit drinking.:) TJ

Let's have a quick little discussion about orderflow and DOM

1a2b, Not familiar with DOM but my understanding of order flow is that it gives you not only the number of buy/sell, but the distinction between "aggressing" orders as opposed to "reacting" ones. Meaning it tells you which side is initiating the transaction. If the market trades at X, then...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Ninna, Agree on trailing stops. My only problem with those is getting whipsawed on upward (or downward) spikes that move your trailer too close to market and then you get stopped out prematurely. One question: what do you consider fast moving and hence what is longer time frame in your...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Thank you all for all this. Advice galore really! First of all I need to dispel a wrong impression: I do not start trading from scratch, like it would be an off the wall idea. I was a FX trader from 1980 to 2002, so 22 years in a pretty wild market. I thereafter switched to consulting (until...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Hi Galvin, Did you read Taleb's books? You should. Plus, what kind of margin does your broker require for selling naked puts? Best, TJ

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Nkhoi, Clearer with the chart. Jackie, I'm thinking If you guess 50/50 and have 8 point TP and 4 point SL, then Ninna has a point: you get stopped out twice as frequently as you hit your TP and you're down the commish.

Thanks Nkhoi, Noted. Not sure I follow, though. Example with numbers would be most welcome. TJ

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Thanks much NoD, I PM replied. Looks great, really! Ninna, I take your point that skewing PT/SL skews the occurrences as well. But doesn't that apply only if market moves are perfectly random, which is a pretty restrictive assumption? (unless, that is, you still believe in Efficient Market...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Agreed. IB has a paper trading account going with the real one. So will use the paper trading for large trade and smaller size on the real deal. Why do you suggest SPY odd lots? To scale risk to the $40k? Or is there any other reason? Thx

Hi TheP, Started on Thursday. Just trying to get other traders' $.02 as I go on.

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Hi Ninna, Thx for the advice. I was thinking (naively?) on short time frames who's got a consistent edge? Not sure even Goldman Sachs knows (or rather wants to know) whether the market is going to move up .8% before moving down .6% in the coming hour or so (which is the bet I am making with...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

Forgot to mention: I don't need the $40k either, so can accept pretty large drawdowns. (not sure that's a plus  )
