Absolutely brilliant development, even if it is still client-side.

Trader P/L 2006 Questions and Discussion

I find I agree with like 95% of your ideas about prop and trading, along with people like FaderTrader. I assume you started like I did in a firm like Generic/Assent, but I'm curious what you're doing now, what instruments and time frame you focus on. I ask mainly because all of the people...

Trader P/L 2006 Questions and Discussion

I can't understand why anyone would do that. I can never fully understand how someone could get enough personal satisfaction from being respected on the internet to fake their blotters. The respect of an anonymous subgroup of people with no power to influence you has no tangible effect on your...

    Interested in NYC Internship

Also one last thing: your ad is terrific. I run a group of traders myself (not in NYC), and I would take notice of your application in contrast to the ones I normally filter out. Retain your optimism and humility. Those will serve you well in trading, as odd as that may seem.

    Interested in NYC Internship

If you are looking for training, it is important you understand the commission structure and instrument scope of prop trading. There are a few groups from Generic, Genesis, Benchmark, and Echo in NYC that are reliable and flexible with the time frames they can teach, though I cannot give...

    Fib levels: who uses them?

It's becoming clear that anyone from the Maverick branch of Assent in Chicago is a potential homewrecker.

    Fib levels: who uses them?

I have <i>absolutely</i> no desire to get into a pissing contest. Furthermore, I believe it when some traders say they find a discretionary technique that works for them that doesn't require fundamental validation, as long as it is directly reflected in their P&L. I couldn't ever codify or...

    Fib levels: who uses them?

Just trying to find out why people believe they work: either enough trader volume is behind it, or it reflects larger patterns in market psychology.

    Scalper 101

I definitely agree, though I do think tape readers have an edge in identifying those movers before the size is shown in printed volume. You can tell just by the way a stock spreads and prints sometimes that a larger player is there, before 50k shares goes off. Have you ever looked into a <a...

    Fib levels: who uses them?

So you're saying IF fib support is clustered with significant trend lines and other TA levels, it increases trader liquidity (vs. institutional order flow) enough to push price?

    Fib levels: who uses them?

I never believe that any technical tool works b/c other traders use them. If you use them as targets to sweep stops, that would confirm my position. I think smart traders would use any common-sense TA as low hanging fruit, and large institutions would find the liquidity it needs in...

    Fib levels: who uses them?

I have never found any reliability in these <i>except</i> Fib extensions -- and ONLY when measuring 50% and 100% extensions when I have a sense of where the VWAP will be for the day. Fib numbers may correspond to patterns in nature in proportions and ratios, but I do not think they have any...

    Too old to go Prop?

Brokers on steroids is right. Prop is excellent for providing you with the means to scale up in a profitable method without the hassles of retail regulations and leverage. I can't see how age would matter in the slightest unless you want to learn high pressure techniques like scalping on...

Trader P/L 2006 Questions and Discussion

It seems to me this guy is trading for all the wrong reasons. I think anyone objective can see that bighitter has his self-esteem completely tied up with his P&L, and probably wants a certain image that he believes comes with being a trader. The degree to which he will become hostile toward...

    Scalper 101

Although I should note, I like your idea of scalping on congestion days and taking swing entries on other days.

    Scalper 101

I don't want to be a naysayer at all, as I believe everyone should experiment until they discover what technique truly gives them the most comfort. I just think that successful scalpers have methods for decoding order flow, not analyzing risk and reward via the charts like traditional position...

    anyone else notice this bullshit?

I am sure all of these guys are prop traders on T1s though, though even we have slight delays compared to what shows up on the floor. Sometimes I am 100% sure the specialist is holding my market order while yanking fake size, sometimes I have no idea if it's a delay. Haven't seen this...

    Going Prop = Resume Killer?

The idea that going prop is a resume killer mainly stems from the trade off someone right of college experiences if they want a career related to the markets. For everyone else, this does not apply. The majority of prop firms that hire someone without a good education and without previous...

    Questions for Rearden Metal

Thanks for that, especially the Bodkin Experiment note. And yeah, after I wrote that I realized it was probably rude and presumptuous for an anonymous person to bring those questions up. Sorry about that..!

Conspiracy theory proven August 8, 2006. Class actions?

I think a wiser perspective to have is to notice a tendency to attribute unexpected volatility and movement to collusion or manipulation. This removes your own responsibility from the equation, and is something that might allow you to hold onto losers in the future.
