7 Stocks you need to know for monday

YHOO and CIT news drivers you mentioned were out during trading hours on Friday. Watch the financials (in particular GS) and Q's for clues on Monday. I feel like this earnings season could have some big surprises to the upside mixed in there....but it won't be enough to shift sentiment for...

    Hoboken, NJ

It may have been less untrendy to live in Hoboken for a while. Live in Manhattan or Brooklyn with a roomate. Your love life will be a lot less complicated unless you want to focus on NJ girls.

Lifestyle trader choice - tough decision

I didn't read all the above posts, so I may have missed this, but how old are you? It's silly not to make hay while the sun shines, especially while you are under 40. Plenty of time to take it easy and be your own boss later if you are young....making money now takes pressure off later...

Why is Macke Out From CNBC?

His views were pretty consistent in terms of their accuracy and were usually delivered with a nice dose of humor. Hope he feels better. Too many pom-poms now amongst the remaining traders on Fast Money. No point in catching the first 10 minutes of that show.

The S&P 500 is now trading at 131 times earnings

I've addressed this in previous posts. Not sure where to start with "Matthew Collins, A-Letter Editor", who either doesn't seem to be very experienced or is just interested in promoting a bear agenda. P/E ratio is not a "complicated" concept nor does it have an endless amount of...

What's the difference between trader and portfolio manager?

Great thread. Only thing I would add is you be skeptical of the value of a "low cost" MBA. Figure out who recruits at the school you are looking at and where its alumns have landed jobs. I would argue that second and third tier school MBAs have very little marginal value at all...

    Think stocks are cheap?

Depending on which earnings you are talking about, I may disagree with your premise that we hit "single digit P/Es" on "previous downturns". Are we talking multiples on LTM earnings or forward? I'm not bullish, in fact I am looking for reasons to sell. I just hate lazy analysis. Seems...

    dividend tax question.

True, companies do get a tax shield from the interest payments they make to debt holders. But debt is primarily "cheaper" than equity because the issuance of debt does not dilute equity holders (and their EPS). The primary reason why equity capital is more expensive because investors expect...

Which stocks would you hold for 30 years?

I guess I don't see the logic here. You are intentionally trying to reduce your ability to be nimble. Also, I see an end to physical delivery between now and then. What am I missing?

    S&P Forward Earnings

Piggie, your number includes write-downs. This market is looking past 2009 and is assuming a recovery. I don't necessarily agree, but that's where we're at right now.

    S&P Forward Earnings

$63 in 2009 before financial institution write downs we are now roughly 14.6x based on that estimate.

Port1385 says to "double down" in your 3x inverse positions!!!

I was looking for him to man up and update his fan base with his latest move after doubling-down... ....but I suspect he will remain silent, while posting links of Cramer and other nonsense in other threads ... .... and swoop in here next week, next month (or whenever we tank) and declare...

    Chrysler won't repay bailout money

I was impressed with what I initially assumed were the terms of the Fiat alliance. I now think the original disclosures were seriously lacking - and that it was likely intentional.

    Chrysler won't repay bailout money

Not suprising I suppose. But, I wonder if this just a case of the reporter talking past a govt official? The deal with Fiat does not allow Fiat to take more than 49% stake in the company until the Treasury has been paid. Scroll down to "2. The transaction" section in the text from Fiat's...
