Holy Cr*p ISLD blocked from providing QQQ ,DIA, and SPY full book quotes

So, next month, when ISLD goes back under 5% (because no one can see their bid/offer to take), will they be allowed to start displaying again? And if so, will the same thing happen and it just goes back and forth, month to month?

    Trading in Hawaii

I'm not in Hawaii (too early a day for me), but I wouldn't think there would be any serious lag. If your broker is based in Calif, it would be no different than someone based in FL or NY. Actually, it might be better because when you go cross country, you may encounter a half dozen routers...

    RE> Bright Trading "Boot Camp"

Yes, I'm familiar with the bootcamp. I've talked to Don about this and I think it sounds very good. However, it is a "work in progress". I guess you could say he's in the "alpha" or "beta" stage of it now and when he's ready, he'll be providing more info. If you want more details, you could...

    RE> Bright Trading "Boot Camp"

I know of many traders whose few months tuition at the "school of hard knocks" cost much much more than their 4+ years of college tuition.

    Pre-trading Rituals?

I just KNEW this thread would end up in the category of "Too much information!" or "More than I needed to know" How bout something that's really a ritual: Pentagrams and chicken blood? Lucky shirts? Circle the workstation 3 times counterclockwise then hop on one leg for 21.7 seconds? Rub...

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

Hmmm.. if I get OldTrader and OldTimer confused guess I'm the old timer then.:D Or maybe I kinda knew that you weren't just an Old Trader, but also an Old Timer and that was a Fraudien(sp) slip. :D :D :D You know those sayings: Old Fishermen never die, they just smell that way. Old...

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

That USED to be the way it was, but not anymore. Traders can now put in "hidden" orders inside the NBBO. So, you could be putting in a bid to take the NBBO ask and get filled lower because you hit a hidden order in front of it. It's not a frequent thing, but it does happen.

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

That's not necessarily true. If the specialist is working a big order, he quite often takes the market orders to work his big order with and hands off the limit orders to his assistant so he doesn't have to deal with him. The assistant has certain discretion and can fill those immediately...

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

Quite true. When I look at a time and sales to see if something is contestable, I have to make sure they were all NYSE trades, 2nd and 3rd market don't count.

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

You might want to get a copy of the NYSE rule book. The specialist has 2 minutes to fill an order and if it's printing above his buy order when that 2 minutes arrives, he doesn't have to fill it. It's their game, they make the rules, but they do have to follow them and if they don't, you can...

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

OK, the final question then, was the last print at 28.39 printed MORE than 2 minutes from the time you put your bid in? If so, you are entitled to that trade and your broker should put in a complaint at your request (if you still want the trade at this moment). If it was NOT more than 2...

NYSE Trading -- Is this legal?

He has up to 2 minutes to fill you after your order goes in. Now what we need (as Paul Harvey says) is the rest of the story. After those prints, what did he do and what did you do. More than 90 seconds later, did he print below your bid? Did you cancel you order and how soon after?

    On Opening Orders

If you wait until the last second for your opening order, you may not get filled. By exchange rules, the specialist has 2 minutes to fill an order. So, if you put your order in at 9:28:01 and the specialist opens at 9:30:00, then he doesn't have to fill you. I've seen this happen, and...

    Moving Satellite Internet connection?

Just read that one of the cruise lines has a new ship coming out that will have 24 hour AOL internet cafe. So, I guess it's possible. Just wonder what the costs are.

That was a slap in the face. Usually those things are ok to do or nearly a wash. Wonder what happened there?

    Specialists short/total volume, weekly

Do the specialists have to do any kind of daily reporting of things like: 1. Their position at the end of the day? 2. How much they traded for their own account?

what do you say when people ask you for tips/advice?

I tell them I'm a DAY trader and that my timeframe is often only a few minutes and I never know in advance what I'll be buying or selling or when I'll be doing it. I say, "I could call you when I buy something, but by the time you buy it, it would be me selling it to you, closing my position."
