how important is the entry and how complicated does it need to be?

Hi Don...I'm not so sure that's such a good analogy. Trading is a profession. I've never been inside a casino, and I don't really have any desire to visit a casino. I already know who's going to win. And I know that if I sit down at a table with a professional...

how important is the entry and how complicated does it need to be?

I agree with that as well. The entry and exit are both important. You can't just flip a coin for your entry. I definitely agree that the exit takes more effort. It's tuff to sit there when your position is showing a nice profit, but you still haven't...

how important is the entry and how complicated does it need to be?

Hi ElCubano...here's what I would have tried to do on this particular short. After entry, I would place a 6 tick stop. Then I would try to hold the position for a 3-1 profit. I think anytime you put on a trade and you can get 3 dollars for...

how important is the entry and how complicated does it need to be?

Hi daniel...you don't see any reasons to be short? Let me give you two: 1. The trend was down. 2. Price just broke thru support. Yes, I realize that doesn't guarantee the market will continue down. But, I'll take the other side of your long, everytime.

how important is the entry and how complicated does it need to be?

With all do respect to those who think the entry isn't important. I have to disagree. There are certain times when going short or long is a no-brainer.

    Tick Charts/Bars

I have my charts set to start counting ticks at 08:30. The first tick is in the first 100T bar. That's another thing I like about using tick bars. Since they're not based on a time frame such as 2, 3, 5 minute etc. I can start trading around noon if I want...

    Tick Charts/Bars

Hey underdog...(that was one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid...hehe) I use 100T charts when I trade the ES. I like them better than the minute charts for a couple of reasons. First, I feel they are more "flowing" than a minute based chart...

LoL...I think it's just you and me, partner. I think everybody else is watching the football game. Which reminds me, I think Agassi and Sampras are playing now. Talk to you later. :)

    Interesting emini method...

I saw this on www.dacharts.com/index.php and wondered if anyone here trades a similiar method. Basically, "Retro-Trader" www.dacharts.com/systems.php uses 15 minute bars for his entry signal and 5 minute bars for his exits. Any comments or observations?..

    Toby Crabel Book...

Hey Gordon...I could just say it's worth $500, because that's what readers are willing to pay, but I'll try to give you a better answer. (check out "mgkrebs" link) I think, what has drawn a lot of interest to this book is the numerous ideas that it contains, and the fact that...

How much backtesting do I need?

I didn't think of it before... Charles Lebeau has been around awhile. I think they have a forum, also. You should be able to get plenty of info on system testing. Hope this helps. www.traderclub.com/

How much backtesting do I need?

It sort of depends on your time frame. If I'm testing an idea that uses daily bars, I usually need about 10 years of data. If I'm testing an idea that uses intraday data like 5 minute or something,I usually need a couple of hundred charts.

How to determine the strength of a trend

No...at least not in the U.S. Omega stopped selling their stand-alone software to promote their online version. I've heard you can still buy a copy in the U.K, and I've seen copys for sale on ebay, occasionally.
