Fill canceled 6 hours later on IB

I have had problems like this but not recently. As IB said, the problem is with the exchange. It was much worse before they added the portfolio page to the TWS.

    Always losing on the spread

It depends on your trading style and the market. Often the trades that are easiest to do have the worst outcome. If the trade is any good, you will usually have to pay up to get it done. Think about it from the viewpoint of the person you are trading with. Why is he doing the trade?

    Bright Trading's new payout model

Whenever I hear the term "spoofing", that's exactly the scenario that comes to mind. I think it happens more often than people realize except in much smaller sizes.

    Acronis backup

A second hard drive for backups is probably the best return on investment. The advantage of cloning your hard drive is that it is very quick to recover. In my case, I have a separate computer for trading. I did this initially for info security purposes, but I found it was worth it simply...

    Acronis backup

The last time I replaced my boot drive, I used Migrate Easy. As a side note, cloning a boot drive is not something I do very often, and I think it strange that Acronis gives a 15-day trial on s/w that gets used once. It also looks to me like True Image has the same capabilities for...

    Acronis backup

That's an elegant solution, but fairly expensive. It protects well against system failures, but not against mistakes. And I have been known to make those. I have used Acronis 2009 and 2010 (64-bit) versions and have been satisfied. I once needed to do a disc recovery using the 2009 version...

    Interactive Brokers questions

The second link is IB's website for UK residents. You should be using that site, not the main site, for information. As Cdntrader stated, when you buy something denominated in non-base currency, you have a choice between borrowing the currency required (and presumably paying interest) or...

    Interactive Brokers questions

When you open an account at IB, you declare a base currency. GBP is one of the currencies allowed. You can conduct trades in any currency, but reports will be made in the base currency. http://ibkb.interactivebrokers.com/node/57 http://www.interactivebrokers.co.uk/en/main.php

Infinium Capital Management Faces Civil Charges for Algorithmic Oil Trading Mayhem

This statement from the article is obviously untrue. The party most associated with the error is Infinium CEO and co-founder Charles Whitman. It's a blatant cover-up that engineers and developers quit or were fired. Infinium had inadequate controls in place, and that is always management's fault.

IB's Java TWS vs Standalone TWS

With stand-alone, you have control over which version you are running. The browser always gets the latest (often buggy) version.

    Bright Trading's new payout model

Missing from this discussion is the simple fact that there is a trade-off between risk and opportunity. You can get hired as a trader by a hedge fund (or until now by Goldman Sachs, etc) and paid a six-figure salary with plenty of capital and training, etc. That's a great opportunity for the...

    Struggling with staying focused

The bad news is that sitting and watching "price action" is like watching grass grow. The good news is that you don't have to do that to make money ... unless you want to. Is that really the lifestyle you want?

    Bright Trading's new payout model

I still don't understand this or Don's statement. It's my understanding that the requirement to disclose applies only to licensees. I have no trading-related licenses -- don't need any -- and so far as I know, I can have accounts scattered all about with no disclosure. Am I wrong about that?

    Bright Trading's new payout model

Losses in the prop firm's capital are guaranteed by the trader's capital contribution, so the only way the firm can lose money is if they fail to adequately supervise their traders. The issue being discussed in this thread is whether a 100% payout makes it look like a retail account. I believe...

    Bright Trading's new payout model

It has been my understanding that a prop trader cannot have an account somewhere else without their sponsor's (i.e. Bright's) permission. That is one of the considerations that lead me to rule out trading prop. I have been trading at IB for years, and all my software was written for their API.
