    Short-term bottom revisited?

I'd guess to say that we're getting a culmination of sell on the news, no definitive timetable from Bush, a useless and lost Democratic response, and foreign selling as they watch the United States and feel that we don't have our SH*T in gear. Look on the bright side, CEO's have recently...

    Short-term bottom revisited?

Futures are tanking hard overnite after Bush's State of the Union. Almost all Asian and European markets are on the cliff of breaking into multiyear lows. That's tough. We had a fakeout last Thursday, and now yesterday. This is gonna make a few people puke who got long on those fake...

Where will this down leg bottom?

Everyone knows about Iraq, the weak economy, etc etc. There are many comparisons this time to the 1991 Desert Storm war. The biggest problem this time around me thinks is not war. It's our severely puke weak dollar. Anyone know about currencies care to comment on what it'll do to...

e-minis on globex down just after market close

I've just started trading the eminis... Question is - on IB, the ES and NQ seem to grey out on the TWS. This happens around 15 min after closing and lasts maybe 20 min. Is there a reason for this or is this just Globex or an IB quote feed problem?

    Mark to Market Inventory

Traders who are mark to market have to mark (close out on paper) their holdings/inventory to the Dec.31 market price. As far as on the tax return, are these just another transaction? Or does the "inventory" need to be accounted for in a particular form/line?

    IRS Audits & Notifications

Has anyone ever read or does anyone know about whether or not turning in your tax return at the beginning of the year makes it less likely to be audited than turning in the return around April 15th? Or vice versa?

    IRS Audits & Notifications

Was wondering what types of audits or notices other traders have encountered with the IRS? Maybe we can share and learn from them to be better prepared come tax time. Haven't had a problem which actually makes me more paranoid that something could be right around the corner. I've been...

IB - Short Calls/Puts at Expiration

Def or any other IB user who is familiar with this, In the past when I've sold options, they've expired worthless so no action was required of me. This month, I will be short calls/puts (having sold for income) and holding the underlying stock. Since these options will be in the...

    Audit Possibility

This is fairly subjective. Primarily, you must satisfy the auditor when the time comes and "prove to him" that you trade for a living. If you still believe you are, but he claims that you aren't (which is possible since its such a grey area), then you must contact his superior. As far as...

    Capital Gains on Options

Is it true that the IRS doesn't get any information whatsoever from the broker about our option trades? As a result, the IRS has no information to compare our reported trades with? Then how does the IRS know if we are over or under reporting our capital gains from options (other than...

    hedge fund idea

    1) Is your system scaleable without slippage? There percentages you are throwing out. Is there a drawdown with the more capital that you use? If so, how much? 2) Does your system returns account for commision and spread? 3) Is there a brokerage or trading platform that can handle your...

Trading Multiple Accounts Simultaneously thru One Platform

IB almost had it - they are offering this service. But so far and for the time being, its only for registered investment advisors. Are there any other brokers out there who offer this service??? So that trading for multiple/client accounts is much easier in that you dont have to make...

Best Way (entity?) to trade Family Funds

Steve from IB responded via email to me, saying this new IB feature would probably be available only to Registered Investment Advisors when it first starts August 1st. That being the case, does anyone know another alternative for handling/managing separate accounts similar to this? This...

    Is TODAY the day???

Dont know about a double bottom, but take a look at individual stocks - ie GE, MSFT. They are downright broken now even with this huge gain in the Dow. Those stocks broke after several months of basing and a simple bounce is not going to do it. And while a 400 gain in the Dow looks good...
