    Amazing scalping system

Hi gorge When you were running this last year you were getting 300 pips http://www.earnforex.com/forum/threads/300-pips-every-day-strategy.16809/ I notice that otherwise everything in your system is exactly the same; but now you're down to 100 pips. Did you deliberately reduce your risk, or...

    Fundseeder. Opinions? Useful/Not. Risk?

If I was to go down this route (which I'm not) then I'd probably go with fundseeder. Although I have no experience of them, the fact that Jack is involved is a big plus. Remember you are giving these guys access to your brokerage account - you need to trust them! Many of the similar operations...

Problem with trading 1 contract only

I don't understand why you need targets if you are using trailing stops. I'm not saying that trading with targets is always stupid, but it probably wouldn't make sense for someone who is trading trends, since they expect to have fewer winners, the winners need to be bigger, and there is no point...

Do large banks and institutions use TA to profit?

FXTraderSK, It would be helpful if you could quote the poster you are addressing like this: Otherwise it isn't obvious who you are talking to (this is particularly true if several posters have made similar points). If a poster is 'ignored' by someone else then their quote won't appear in...

Do large banks and institutions use TA to profit?

AHL, Winton, Aspect, Bluetrend, Cantab, Transtrend, Graham, ISAM. "Which companies do they work for?" Don't understand the question. Their core trend following is mostly built on evolutions of moving average crossover; slightly improved but still highly correlated to that. The reason for that...

"Jim Simons is Correct About Trend-Following"

VIX, a few weeks ago 21 to 27.5 is a 30% move I reckon. Not sure what you mean mean by 'inescapable'; even if the move reverses as it did here the margin call would already have wiped you out. OK diversification helps, you'd have been crazy to be trading all your money in near VIX at 4:1...

"Jim Simons is Correct About Trend-Following"

Yes CTA's had a flat spot between 2010 - 2013 (last year was great though), but that wouldn't be unexpected just given statistical noise; I'm not sure it means that TF is broken. Also don't forget Simons said that TF was broken in 1980, not 2010! AFAIK they wouldn't have a big mean reversion...

    Fully automated futures trading

It's absolutely fine to ask these questions, and hopefully I can clear up your confusion. The long run target expected average standard deviation of my annual returns is 25% - that is what I mean by 'risk'. The amount of capital I have at risk is £400,000; so the long run expected blah blah is...

Do large banks and institutions use TA to profit?

Banks see liquidity and order flow in OTC markets. They know about large customer orders before they are hedged in the market. That's worth something. GAT (Used to work in a bank)

Do large banks and institutions use TA to profit?

Systematic CTA's, managing up to $30bn - so large, use trend following models (moving average crossovers and the like). In general they don't use pattern recognition, elliot waves, fibonnaci, point and figure analysis, resistance, support, candlesticks or any of that stuff.

So you want to be a trader?

"How do I become a trader?" This question get's asked a lot on ET. Here's my take on it: An explanation of this is on my blog, here: http://qoppac.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/so-you-want-to-be-trader.html Hope it's useful. Comments welcome GAT

Im new, Need Help with Strategy

Thanks for the kind words. Actually I don't assume the reader has edge laden strategies. I am a firm disbeliever in secret sauce. Secret sauce is eithier (a) incredibly rare and unlikely to appear in a book, or (b) overfitted, data mined, rubbish and hence probably will be in a book. Rather I...

Im new, Need Help with Strategy

My first response is that 1-4 days is probably way too short and you will get killed on transaction costs; but I recognise that is what swing traders prefer. If you insist then a stop loss equal to the recent daily price volatility will give you about a 4 day holding period. For a longer answer...

Im new, Need Help with Strategy

If you are using leverage you must use stops. What is your average holding period going to be? (that will determine what your stop should be). It looks like you are going to be putting on far too much risk if you don't use stops (1/3 of capital in a single position, 4 positions at once). I can't...

Need Help with Expiry Date on VIX Futures

They don't use it, at least not for futures (I don't trade options) but that wouldn't help me. I could for example specify all expiry dates with an 8 character string. The issue I have is I need I nice way of getting those expiry dates to begin with. For every contract except VIX I just need to...

Need Help with Expiry Date on VIX Futures

(Sorry for the rather abbreviated subject line, which I now find I cannot edit) I trade through IB, fully automated, using python code of my own design. Up to now I've used the following process to get contract expiries. - based on the liquid expiry cycle (quarterly, monthly or weird) get the...
