    Calendar Spreads

Terry's Tips has multiple calendars going at the same time. He adds new ones as the stock moves. I think his rule is that if the underlying gets 10% away from a spread he will roll it to something ATM. Sometimes it seems like he is chasing the market and losing money. I'm becoming a bit...

    Are you a programmer (poll)

I started with FORTRAN. I know C the best. I learned C++ but never used it much at work. Most of the C++ code I've seen doesn't seem to make use of the better features of object-oriented programming. It just seems like a bigger and more complicated mess than C code used to be. I mostly...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

If you put down less than 20% you are usually required to buy mortgage insurance. I believe that would cover the bank for their loss. Edit: Of course that won't let you off the hook.

    S&P has topped for 2006

Kudlow is still around? I thought Cramer did a reverse fart and Kudlow was sucked in, never to be seen again.

A drink to take the edge off...

More courage? I would advise against it. First it's "Just one shot before the market opens". Next it will be "Just another one at one o'clock". After that will be once every hour. Pretty soon you'll be reaching for the Kool-Aid.

    When will this bubble bust?

Yeah right. the democrats win one or two houses of Congress and then they raise taxes. You ever heard that the president has to sign those tax bills? And if he vetoes then Congress needs 2/3 majority to overide? No, I guess not not if you are peddling propaganda.

That's right. This should be treated as total speculation.

    RNVS - volatility

How does a 10/15/20 Iron Butterfly sound? Max profit at 15 is 4.35, max loss is .65. B/E points at just below 11 and just above 19. Edit: Note these are TOS midpoint prices.

I Need Help For Tomorrow Please

Sorry, if you are long the call then you will buy, not sell the stock. By the time I went and checked a few things I had turned your long call into a short one. In any case, the new .05 rule goes into efect today.

    Optionscoach yahoo group ?

It's still there AFAIK. Not too much activity though. Coach is kind of busy and only posts the entries sporadically.

I Need Help For Tomorrow Please

New rules go into effect this expiration. Options in the money by five cents will be automatically exercised. If this happens to you and you don't own the stock, your broker will sell them short in your account. You can sell the options tomorrow or instruct your broker not to exercise them.

    Jimbo's Option Spread Journal

I've still got my 410/420/430/440 IC. Only one contract - not too much damage.

    "Scaling out" is inferior behavior

I thought he also said scaling IN is more profitable that scaling out or doing nothing. That's the Turtle Trading method IIRC. Also, scaling in is just another form of cost averaging.

Motorola Selling Off Like Its 2000

This ain't nothing like 2000 (yet). I owned way too much MOT in 2000. I was thinking about selling as it got close to 180 (pre-split) but some analyst asshole said it was going a lot higher. I panicked and sold around 140. Usually that is a mistake, but this time it was for the best. I just...

    Assignment (newbie)

Did they go to penny increments? I didn't get the memo. I would sell the stock (closed today at 25.88) and the put (TOS bid/ask is .45/.55). Your cost of the stock was 26.03. You can close the rest of the position for 26.33, a 30 cent profit, which might cover most of the commissions...

    Assignment (newbie)

We don't know what he paid for the 25 put. I wasn't saying he would make a profit, just trying to minimize the loss if possible, especially if he was no longer interested in keeping the stock.

    Assignment (newbie)

And getting paid 1.45 for it. Is that bad? Opening a conversion all at once guarantees no profit or loss (except commissions), but in this case he would be "legging in" if that term applies here. His net price for buying the stock is 30 - 3.97 = 26.03. (Question: is the 3.97 counting...
