    Questions about the uptick rule

The idiots are talking about re implementing the uptick rule for shorting, like it's going to fix all the problems with the stock market. I have two questions about it. 1. Does this affect someone who is long and just wants to sell? Is it known at the time of the sale if it is a short sale...

Socialised health care in Canada poll

I've always thought a good poll for Canadians would be: 1. Are you satisfied with your healthcare system? 2. Would you trade it for what they have in the US?

    California....what happened?

Take the last election in November. Voters approved a $10 billion high speed rail system, plus a couple more items for about a billion each, even as the governor was warning about a multibillion dollar shortfall.

I don't want free health care. I want reasonable health care. The only thing worse than socialized universal health care is what we have in the US.

WSJ: You won't believe what's in that stimulus bill.

Does anyone know if increasing the debt ceiling is part of Obama's package? Remember they had to increase it twice (by more than 100%) last summer.

The second 350B in TARP has been blocked

It's just political posturing. It takes both the House and the Senate to block, and the Senate already voted against.

    Inflation is the way out

He doesn't exactly say how to achieve this higher inflation. Bernanke has been trying like hell to inflate and it hasn't been working. Inflation by decree? How about this one: Let the existing banks fail and use the TARP money to fund new banks. That would punish the ones who made bad...

California to Begin Issuing IOUs on Feb 1

The point about prop 13 is that the pols in Sacramento couldn't/wouldn't address the problem, so the voters took it into their own hands. I'm sure there was no small amount of revenge in voting for it. It may not be the perfect solution, but it's better than the alternative.

    Former NRA spokesman “Lereah” Confession

No shit Sherlock. Anyone who has been paying attention knows that the NAR always has a positive spin no matter what the market is doing. That's why no one pays any attention to them.

    So, Whats the fix?

"Conventional wisdom" says that high or hyperinflation will solve our debt problems, but won't it just increase the bigger problems of Social Security and Medicare? As inflation rises those costs will also rise.

    So, Whats the fix?

The Japanese have been waiting almost 20 years. I think the only fix is for the government to stop trying to fix it. Oh, and someday we will figure out that a service economy that depends on ever expanding credit is not workable in the long run.

California may pay taxpayer income tax refunds in April with IOUs

I read in the local paper a few weeks ago that California has approved renovating the courthouses in almost all the counties. The local one is projected to cost $85 million. I don't know if that is higher than average or lower. it's a tiny county, but construction costs might be higher since it...

Last time they did it the banks would accept them. So if you can trade them for FRNs, you can take those to the car dealer.
