Over 75 years ago Wall Street Crashed; but today the New Crash is already underway...

So Niall F. is calling for "some sort" of international support of the Euro? Sounds like he wants the US Fed to do it? Does Ben's printing press do other currencies?

Buy/Sell To Open closes previous position? WTF?

I suppose it depends on the broker. Thinkorswim (TDA) doesn't even have the concept of BTO or STO, just buy or sell. (Edit: that was a reply to the comment that the broker should have rejected the order. At ToS I think they would just accept the order and cancel the opposite positions.)...

    Should corporations pay tax?

Corporations don't pay taxes their customers do, so one could argue that they should pay no tax at all. But then the difference would have to be made up by someone (probably individuals) where the corporation is located. That wouldn't be so bad if most of the corporation's customers are local...

    Hedge Losing Stock Position

It doesn't sound like a simple stock, or option but one of those exotic structured instruments that sounds reasonable but always ends up in favor of the seller/originator. I recall Schwab trying to sell me some kind of "structured note" or something back in early 2008. It paid a good yield...

    This options stuff is easy

I was playing around with going long straddles/strangles on high-flying stocks like GOOG and AAPL a week or two before earnings, before the IV jumped. If the stock really moved before earns then just go ahead and sell, otherwise sell a further out strangle a few days before earns when IV is higher.

    RIP Thinkorswim

Just got email stating that my account will be transferred to TD Ameritrade this weekend.

    This options stuff is easy

Oh well. If it was real money I would have (I hope) closed out the CSCO strangle at +35K yesterday, instead of -1K today.

A vertical call debit spread triggers a margin call. Does that shound right?

Who is the broker? Was just reading elsewhere someone who has some DOTM short puts said that TD Ameritrade just noted a drop in account balance while Interactive Brokers gave a margin call. They guy added cash but IB still liquidated some positions.

Bac having liquidity issues, keep an eye out.

They squicked both shareholder and bondholders with GM. Guess what? They got more suckers to buy back in again.

    This options stuff is easy

In the past month: 32K on GOOG earnings 25K (so far on CSCO, 16/17 long strangle) 8K on AAPL earns "only" 1K on SPY 131/132 strangle, closed 8/2, would be up a lot more if still on Overall up 65K on 500K account in about a month. Too bad it was all paper trades.

buy dividend stocks on high margin at cheap borrow

After reading that article I went into ToS back testing. I found that AGNC (another mREIT paying 20%) would increase in stock price in the two or three weeks before ex-date enough so that married puts would have been a big winner. I would use married puts instead of calls so that if the stock...

Like I tried to imply in my comments above the article, I don't think there are any examples.

buy dividend stocks on high margin at cheap borrow

Presenting the Dividend Timing Collar. I think the author forgets that a) options already price in any dividends; and 2) the stock price falls by the divvy amount the day after ex-. I think he somehow thinks he can magically be on record on ex-div day but still void the price drop. Or something...

How do you recover from a 80% loss?

If your loss was in the thousands then suck it up. If it was in the billions then call Ben and Timmie and get your rightful bailout.

If the USA isn't AAA, can any state be AAA?

If that is true then won't there be a lot of retirement funds, etc who will be forced to liquidate their bonds?
