    Why have the markets pattern?

The pattern might be caused by fear. It starts a chain reaction. It's very contagious. Tell your kid you don't fear losing money, so you are able to anticipate the moves of everyone else who does. It also may have something to do with your little friendz..... :D

Are you a long or short biased trader?

Long bias here. It's like picking money up off the ground before the crowd sees it. :D

    Most profitable / favorite strategy

Using any type of price action, technical indicators, or other price based method to define rules with the objective of buying when price is going up, selling when price stops going up, and likewise sell short and cover. The idea is to use statistics generated from simulation, "back testing"...

    Would You Trade This System?

+1 to that. Based on your walk forward results I think it's safe to test the system live with a small position size, unless the back test makes postdictive errors or unrealistic fills. Since that part of the strategy has not been disclosed (I may have missed it), I guess you're on your own...

    Most profitable / favorite strategy

Exactly what I was thinking. I guess it could be considered part of "technical analysis". :D

    .

Since becoming a trader, I've found myself driving with my eye to all the possible ways I could get smashed from other drivers' stupidity. It has probably saved me money.

Poll: Have you discovered a "holy grail" system?

++ I've looked for the printing press but the best I could find is a basket of stock trading trend following algos with PF's in the 2-4 range and win rates 45-55%. Sometimes they go for months without taking a trade. The "grail" from this standpoint is to rank them at any given time...

    TradersStudio Professional Released

I really appreciate the tutorials, too. Traderstudio seems like it's got the ability to manage and optimize several systems on a single account like the old Trading Recipes from Mechanica. This is a huge advantage! -TS 9.0 user

Looking further back than a year ?

It's all about risk. When you're trading with real money, you can always set a rule to change your position size to zero if the theoretical equity curve goes below a moving average. Trend following your equity curve. :D

    Small Stops

I doubt there are any eternal principles of R multiples to successful trading, but a method I like has an R multiple of about 3 with a win rate of about 55%. If something like that gives you a few trades a month and your position size is optimized, you're doubling your account in a year. :D

    anybody else hating this mkt?

If anyone hates this market, go long. The sentiment feels just like a few months after the flash crash, when the Bernanke bull market was powering through all resistance, pegged on overbought. :D

    Questions to Jack Hershey

All this fractal talk has me thinking of the lazy man's trend detection method: 10 EMA, 50 & 200 SMA and price position with respect to each. It's all pretty much the same idea: trends within trends. Ripples within waves within tides. You don't have to train like a zen buddhist or a...

    Small Stops

One way I judge a system is how close I can set a stop before it impedes profits. One of my best systemz can run a 3.5% stop, another one required 15%. Funny thing was, the one that could run the tight stop just blew away everything else I have ever seen for total profits. Signal to...

    Small Stops

Yes, or if you see your buy signal on the next higher time frame. If trading daily, look to the hourly for another buy signal for adding. Works for scaling in, too. Entry setup is all about minimizing risk. Low risk opportunity is the edge......... :D

Thar be much wailing 'n gnashing of teef at zerohedge

ZH and Prechter influenced me to not go long that glorious bull market two years ago. Then there was this guy RobotTrader - an automated trend follower, who kept pointing out the obvious, much to the irritation of the doomers. He would post these simple charts with nothing but price and one...

    Small Stops

I've had the most success buying after a huge candle in the direction of the intended trade. I believe Seykota had a similar style. Schwager got a quote from him saying essentially that his buy stop was above the market where he expected the momentum to be greatest, for the lowest risk...

One of my bots just went long. The gap up was enough to get its attention. :D
