    What's the catch?

What else of this idea? Is there a fundamental flaw in a system that backtests using the bar's close? Is it more likely to incur slippage?

    What's the catch?

Even a monkey could construct a simple system based on technical analysis, backtest it and show at least a small profit. If it were this easy, why doesn't everybody do it? We know slippage and commissions eat into the profit... but what's the catch about backtesting? How realistic are these...

What to do about a choppy market...

We might be missing each other here... Is it too general of me to describe choppy as "sideways trend?" I'm not saying what we have now is necessarily choppy. I meant for this thread to be hypothetical.

What to do about a choppy market...

    Charting my trades

It would seam that the more discretionary I trade, the more I lose/give back. I am working hard to keep it mechanical. discipline... easier said than done.

What to do about a choppy market...

My trading plan performs poorly in choppy markets too... but how can you see the chop coming? I can't see chop coming any easier than I can see a top or bottom, that's why I follow a strict system. However CHOP (or consolidation could be another name for it) still is the weakest link in...

What to do about a choppy market...

What are some strategies for trading when the market gets choppy? 1.) Tighten stops 2.) Loosen stops 3.) Take losses and ride it out 4.) Stop trading and attempt to identify the end of the consolidation. I have been following #3, but my patience grown thin... any ideas...

    Charting my trades

I now use a "system" that I created. It gives me entry and exit signals. I have just added stops to my system, 8 ES points.
