Actually, I'm not sure that high inflation necessarily means your stocks go to almost zero. Maybe if the government is printing millions of times the money supply yearly, sure. But 30% or 40% yearly? I seriously doubt equities go to ~$0 in real dollar terms. Many companies can just keep...

I pretty much just put all my money in the market as soon as I earn it. I'm up like well over a million since ~2000 or so. Seems so easy, a few bumps along the way but I just buy more on margin, very slowly, when the big hits come, have never regretted it. Should you instead just be buying...

Oh I was just meaning generally. I don't short a lot (and when I do I get burned, GME lol), but I remember thinking years ago that the short interest rate for any stock/ETF pretty much was the same as the margin interest rate. I could have been totally wrong about that.

Do I remember correctly that back in the day the rate for shorting a stock was just the general margin interest rate? Not this thing where it could be any rate, based on how many shorting and willing to lend their long securities?
