    Options.,... Argh... no more!!

For me, it's difficult enough to maintain desired exposure at all times trading stocks and futures. It's a lot more difficult with options, being non-linear and multivariant. Maintaining desired exposures require continuous monitoring and trading, often introducing other strikes / dates into...

    Demo account or Micro ?

I'd say go micro. If it's worth your time then it's probably worth a non-zero monetary amount of investment. The real question is always how much.

Do quants pose a threat to traders?

Financial securities like stocks and bonds aren't zero sum. Everyone makes money in bull markets, and that's also why when markets tank the news describe "xx billions just vanished from the economy." Derivatives on the contrary, is zero sum. Settlements are always a transfer of money from one...

So I've been researching options for a few weeks Questions: round 2

Trading options is basically trading greeks. Whatever you own specifically doesn't matter - puts calls spreads straddles strangles whatever, they are all the same. They all consolidate into portfolio greeks which is your exposure and should be monitored dynamically because they change with time.

Need desperate help (Lost life savings)

Around a decade ago, I lost my entire savings at age 24. The amount was equivalent to 2 years salary without spending a penny. I felt extremely miserable and frustrated, just like you are. A decade later today, looking back, I honestly think it was a lesson well worth the money. I learned...

Do low beta stocks/funds have any alpha?

I think these are only generic theories, so they are logical and crucial to understand as they shape ones thinking approach. But to formulate precise strategies is something else. And they're so small that it's almost negligible. So not really practical.

Do low beta stocks/funds have any alpha?

I answered in the second paragraph In theory, given two exact same stocks with different betas, higher beta stock is more attractive than the lower beta stock because it means free leverage. So arbitrage would force R(A) = R(B) + Risk free rate of the excess capital. So in theory the higher...

Do low beta stocks/funds have any alpha?

Beta is the return correlated with market and alpha is the unexplained difference in return (aka. uncorrelated component), so all stocks and funds have an alpha component except the market fund itself. In theory, given two exact same stocks with different betas, higher beta stock is more...

Isn't buying dividend paying stocks for chumps?

ah sorry I'm not familiar with the actual tax rates. If that's the case then doesn't it make dividend stocks really bad investments in the US?

Isn't buying dividend paying stocks for chumps?

Preference in dividend stocks make sense in countries with capital gain taxes. But I'm from a place with zero cap gain tax, yet i still often hear investors here buying stocks based on "high dividend" which i don't agree with. Similar example with stock advisers on television. One of the first...

    IV and long call options

options of diff strikes behave completely different ie DITM call is like holdin a deltaone whereas otm calls need spectacular upside moves to beat theta decay. All your questions will be answered once you forget the actual options and just look at the Greeks.

Repair Strategy for NFLX Short Put

My advice is: - Trade in order to obtain a position you desire, as if you were flat and has no position. - Risk management: vol has now increased and typically your exposure should decrease. - Forget about the losses, it's history. Now that it tanked do you think it'll bounce back? or keep...
