    MSFT a buy?

OK, maybe not quite as insane, but MSFT hitting $40 by May 2013 is not inconceivable. I wouldn't advocate buying msft right away either, wait for it to finish falling, then buy in at the dip.

    MSFT a buy?

Say you are a lifelong windows user (that's still like 80% of the market place). How likely are you to jump to an Android or Mac based tablet? I think there's a sizable chunk that transition to a windows tablet when they do get a table device. Design wise, the surface isn't really worse...

    MSFT a buy?

Serious question here. It seems possible that the microsoft surface can do for microsoft what the ipad did for aapl.

    historical stock data

Yea...you should get your eyes checked. I did not say there was anything wrong with the Bloomberg terminal. I used to work at a firm that had access to Bloomberg, if you look at the terminal closely, you will see that out of sequence trades are quite common. That was my only point regarding...

Anything that causes you to call it a day?

flash crash. when the market began to cut through supports like they were nothing, i got out and just watched..... my face probably looked like this

    historical stock data

You do not know what you are talking about. An out of sequence or late trade is EXACTLY what you want to avoid. Take my example above. If a 928 trade is picked up in the 931 tick, that gives you an improper price in the 931 tick. Let's assume the stock was trending up and the late reported...

ActiveTick vs. IQFeed vs. IB (TOFTT)

So, I didn't look at AT and IB yet, but if the barchart you are referring to is this one: http://realtime.barchart.com/web.asp then that one isn't appropriate for algo trading where you need data piped directly to your application (C++ in my case). iqfeed is cheap, but it is capped to 500...

Actually, that was one of the reasons I picked QuantQuote over other vendors. The only filtering QuantQuote does is removal of out of sequence/late trades: https://quantquote.com/support_glossary.php#OFS I don't see why this wouldn't ever be a good idea. If you have a late reported trade...

    29% in 19 seconds?!

This seems like a bit of a stretch, the data is nowhere complete enough to draw such a strong conclusion....

ActiveTick vs. IQFeed vs. IB (TOFTT)

It seems like the vast majority of the offerings out there are 'pull'. My platform is CentOS, the only natively Linux 'push' data feed I can find is TickView (https://quantquote.com/live-data-feeds) I was offered a 2 week free trial which I took, was able to set everything up properly without...

ActiveTick vs. IQFeed vs. IB (TOFTT)

Yea, I forgot to mention, QuantQuote TickView is natively Linux, on Windows, it needs to run under Cygwin. I think there should also be a distinction made between 'push' and 'pull' type data feeds. Feeds where you are pulling the data via an API tend to scale badly because of the time it...

    President Romney (futures bets)

Romney doesn't have a shot, everybody on Wall Street basically knows that. My trade for an Obama victory will be short SPY.

I don't think Thompson Reuters can be directly compared to eSignal/Tradestation, it is a completely different product aimed at completely different market segments. Reuters works with Savvis to deliver their realtime data, the quote I got was $4k/month, and you need a dedicated 100MBit pipe to...

    29% in 19 seconds?!

I think this is only true if you are the fastest HFT algo. The slow ones that go in at market lose badly. These guys got lucky on KRFT, most of the time, the move isn't 29%, but like 3-4%, and those don't get cancelled....but you're still out 4%

    29% in 19 seconds?!

Yea, the more I think about it, the less I can justify ever using a market order. No good can come of it. Usually, people use market orders if they are in a rush and really want to get into a position. But that usually only happens if the stock is moving quickly, and in those situations, the...

    stock/etf intraday market data vendor?

This comes a little bit late to help me since I just purchased from quantquote.com last week. The quantquote data quality is good and i am satisfied overall, but I am also intrigued about the tradestation option for future reference. how much money do you need to open a tradestation account...
