Warren Buffett doesn't have a cell phone or computer

If someone like him had a cell phone, what are the chances that the number could get leaked to the public by an unscrupulous phone company employee? I'm kind of surprised this doesn't happen more often to famous people.

    Bac

As I understand it, MER's assets deteriorated much more than BAC expected, and BAC was threatening to back out of the deal. Thus the government felt it had to do something to prevent another LEH-style credit market freeze-up with LIBOR shooting through the roof again. Or something to that effect.

how do you know it will be bad for the stockholders? this isn't AIG we're talking about here, the situation is different. BAC is in a better negotiating position than AIG was

    Trading on Options Expiration Days

I'm tempted to build a position in BAC as a long term investment...but over the past year stockholders have not fared well in companies where the government has stepped in. Are things really so bad at BAC that the government could dilute the hell out of the common stockholders, or do something...

I wrote 15 cash secured puts on GE (strike 13 feb)

KINGOFSHORTS, what broker are you using and what is their policy on naked puts? and does it matter to them whether it's a cash secured put or not?

thanks for the info Don. if you at all times (until the options expiration date) keep enough cash to cover buying all the shares at the strike price of the all the puts you sold, does the brokerage have any reason to give you a hard time?

    Jobs is Leaving Apple

I want to build an investment position in Apple. do you think I should buy some now, or wait until tomorrow and get some cheaper? as far as downside risk, I'm more worried about the fact that Apple is selling luxury electronics in a bad recessionary environment than about whether Steve Jobs...

I wrote 15 cash secured puts on GE (strike 13 feb)

If you wrote puts secured by cash, and the stock crashes hard, you can wait until expiration to have the stock put to you at that strike price. are there any situations where the broker would force you to buy back the puts instead of having the stock put to you?

holding DDM for the long haul

point well taken. Sure the S&P 500 gives you much broader exposure to the overall market, but sometimes you don't necessarily want that. There's a lot of crappy companies in the S&P 500. I see the DIA as sort of a quick and dirty filter for what passes as "blue chip", more stable stocks...

holding DDM for the long haul

I'm thinking of taking a large position as an investment for 1 - 5 years. i know people say these double ETFs are not for buy and hold. but comparing the DDM chart to DIA for the past couple years, the DDM does correlate, albeit imperfectly.
