I don't know a whole lot about options but based on what and others have stated in this thread, it may be worth looking into options for risk management purposes.
The biggest danger of swing trading futures is the possibility of some overnight news event that send prices into a tailspin. On the flip side, this is good if you're on the right side of the trade. I.E: The Swiss Franc debacle a couple of years ago.
As for protection...besides a stop loss...
If more traders were uninformed, wouldn't that be an opportunity for you with your superior knowledge of markets? Why stop your potential bread and butter?
TSLA is at the top of a 3-year trading range. If it is to move higher, its current area has to be taken out. This is, to me, an area where one may want to move their stops up if they're long.
That's how I really learned to read charts....by day trading and watching markets move all day. There's no better charting education than that. It's that experience which helps to call the major trends on bigger time frames.

The thing I've learned about day trading is that the potential to make money on a daily basis is very luring. It's possible but it's the most taxing endeavor that you'll ever engage in. IMO, there's more room for error if you hold for a longer time frame.
