Short Futures Tix need to be marked as such?

No, i didn't ask IB before opening the account because i didn't view their order ticket before opening the account. Now that my account is "approved", i've started exploring a bit and came upon this question. I'm making sure i like the interface before i fund the account (which i plan on...

    Margin requirements

This may be a dumb question, but: When i initiate a position, how does the brokerage firm know if i intend to daytrade it or hold it for a few days. There is a big difference between needing $1000 to initiate a daytrading position and $4000 to initiate an overnight position, so how do they...

    Margin requirements

josbarr craigross anybody else Can you tell me what firms you are dealing with that have $500 or $1000 daytrading margins on the mini's I assume you are happy with these firms given the fact that you still deal with them. What do they charge a RT? Thanks.

Short Futures Tix need to be marked as such?

That's what i thought, but i was beginning to look at the IB futures order ticket and there were bullet holes to be filled in for "buy, sell, sell short" as well as "open/close" Does anybody that uses IB know if these bullet holes need to be filled in or do they not exist once i fund my...

    Margin requirements

I understand what you all are saying.... but if they set daytrading margin requirements at 50% of overnight, wouldn't the numbers be $2000 for ES and $1500 for NQ OR am i confusing two different things, and daytrading margin ($1000) is different than 50% of overnight that i'm refering...

Short Futures Tix need to be marked as such?

Although futures can be shorted on a downtick, do the orders have to be marked as "Sell Short"? If so, is there any special treatment of this order (not filled in order or something like that) or is it just so that the exchange can keep track of Open Interest and Short Interest? Thanks.

    Margin requirements

Josbar (or anyone that knows), If overnight margin on ES is ~$4000, and overnight on NQ is ~$3000, and most brokers allow 50% of overnight margin, how do you figure that daytrading margin on the above is $1000/each? I thought the daytrading margin would be 50% of the overnight margin, thus...

    Futures and Margin....

I think i'd be trading thru IB (unless somebody here advises against it). From their website, they offer 50% of SPAN Margin requirements from: "The earlier of 15 minutes before open outcry hours for a products ends or 3:45 pm EST" Does this basically mean that i would only need $5000 Cash...

    Futures and Margin....

If you want to buy contracts which requires a $10,000 initial margin, does this mean you need $10,000 CASH in the account, or do you still get 2:1 margin and therefore really only need $5000 cash. The above question relates to intraday, and the positions wouldn't be held overnight. Thanks...

    Lock Limit

At what point can/do the Eminis (ES+NQ) go lock limit? Can this only happen during "after hours", or can it occur during the normal 9:30-4:00 session?

    E-mini Rookie Trading Journal

Thanks for the reply as i didn't think of using the QQQs as a back up plan. I was thinking about trying to deposit money in another futures account (to just sit and collect interest) in order to make sure i could exit a position in the event of a problem with IB, but instead i'll just use the...

    J-TRADER vs. TWS

SteveT, There are a variety of systematic trading methods that require data but not charts. Not a strategy that i'm employing, but as an example: Let's say you believe that most 1% moves begin with a .25% move within a 5 minute period. You could get the numerical data to feed into a...

    E-mini Rookie Trading Journal

Bronks, How do you find IB's quotes compare to your other vendor? Does one lag the other?? Do you have any back-up plan in case something happens to the IB platform and you have a position on? I'm about to open an IB futures account and wasn't sure if i was going to get an add'l vendor...

So just to clarify: The Nasdaq 100 CASH index and the SP500 CASH index should/would both be included in a Globex subscription? Thanks.

    E-mini Rookie Trading Journal

Since you trade thru IB...... What exchanges do you need to subscribe to in order to get real time quotes for ES and NQ, as well as real time quotes on the equivalent cash indexes? I assumed it was CME, but i only see Globex listed in their prices per exchange.

    which e-mini to track s&p500 ?

How does "rollover" work... is it automatic or is it a general time that people start to trade the next contract out?

    The best platform for futures?

If you trade thru IB and only want to trade the E-mini SP and E-mini Naz100 as well as view real time quotes of the cash indexes... what exchange(s) do you need to subscribe to? (i don't see CME listed in their Monthly Data fee area, only GLOBEX, is that what i want?) Also, will Globex...

    J-TRADER vs. TWS

I will begin trading Futures soon (E-mini contracts) and was going to use IB.... How is IB when it comes to futures? The only negatives i've heard about IB is there quote system is unreliable (at least with equities, just assumed it would be the same with futures) so i'll get a main data...
