EUR/USD - too risky to trade?

This is not true. That move was present in 6E futures. Additionally this does not look like a move a stop would have been heavily slipped on (as opposed to something like an NFP or FOMC event where they most definitely would be).

How do you deal with losses?

Honestly losses bother me much less than missing out on trades - particularly ones I saw coming and either couldn't get positioned for with a reasonable risk, entry missed by some minor amount of ticks, punked out by some stop run, or just simply wasn't available to take the trade. Now that kind...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

Yep, I'd say they'll start cranking up the token rate changes knowing full well they've cornered themselves. Realistically, everything probably hit a real wall back in 2002 and it's been smoke and mirrors for the last decade+.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Yep - and Leeson did MUCH worse stuff than what Nav was up to.

    Mac book + monitors

IMO one doesn't need more than 2 monitors, 3 max. If they're using 3 they better be watching 30 instruments or something.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Even if he were sentenced he'd be sent to a low security Federal prison. Dude isn't going to some supermax state prison over this. The Fed is going to do whatever is necessary to prove he still has that money - the entire goal here is getting it back and returning it to it's "rightful" owners...

    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

I think he was just saying that the brokers who cater more to traditional outright traders are more likely to be behind the curve on accurate margining for spread traders with the latter ending up caught up in margining rules that should apply to them less.

    Ag trade ideas

Yes why does IB do this? I've always found it annoying but figured maybe I was just the idiot.

    Fully automated futures trading

BTW: Are you trading any of the following: XINA50, STW, HSI, HHI.CH, NIFTY, TOPX? I've been having fun with XINA50, and there is a trend there (although I just trade it in a daytrading fashion).

Goldman Gets Serious About High-Speed Trading

Everyone keeps saying this but if it were the case why would institutions even be complaining? They'd be considering pre-2005 the Stone Age and declaring HFT as the savior of markets.

Niederhoffer thinks "follow the trend" sucks

Also just because he apparently said "follow the trend" sucks does not mean he's saying to counter-trend trade.

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

As long as Goldman Sachs is making money off of this (they always do), nothing will be changed. The Fed is a complete pile of BS right now. Does anyone have an opinion on the last time the Fed was actually real?

Yeah so about that last part........ I guess you didn't get the memo?

    Server options

To clarify the latency concern: If the packets you're receiving contain a server side timestamp (usually 8 bytes for epoch+nsec) then the latency simply doesn't matter. You could receive the packets a day later and would have the exact same accuracy and precision than if you received them 1msec...

    Server options

I think a quad core machine could handle 500 concurrent symbols without falling over but it'll be purely based on just how high the network bandwidth needs are. It won't be the latency that's a concern it'll be the ability to not oversaturate the line with that many symbols frequently receiving...

    Server options

This is pretty much nothing for a modern CPU to handle. You're literally just processing incoming socket data and serializing to binary. Even making it multithreaded is not going to result in a significant improvement because you're I/O bound on network. The network stack is also queuing while...

Today Financial Journalism Suffered An Epic Failure

Even ZH haters shouldn't have a hard time getting on board with this. It's absolutely obvious to anyone with half a brain something stinks here.
