ES day trading journal - my final attempt

I entered the market with $26K in Feb this year, traded stocks for a few months and started trading es since May 11. A few weeks later I began to trade es exclusively. I had some bad trading habits, and didn't follow my rules either, as a result I lost almost half of my precious capital in the...

    Es follows spx

It may sound silly, but this is my most important conclusion after watching es chart for months. :D es follows spx, but spx doesn't follow es. Think about it, if spx movs, es must follow it, but if es moves due to imbalance of buy and sell, spx may not follow. I find it really amazing that es...

    Es follows spx

The only thing es has to follow is its underlying s&p 500 the index, maybe this is why es can be so trendy sometimes.

Who is actually making money trading?

I always feel everyone is making money, I don't believe the statistics that only 10% traders earn money.

    What a small range

Wow, es has been moving in a very small range, I take it that people are kinda lost and are afraid to trade in either direction. I watched for hours and didn't make any trades.

    Market News

Which websites/services do you use for important news and events that may move the market? Ideally I can browse the news before the market opens, and while I'm trading, the news will be updated automatically in a small window so that I can take a glance every 5~10 minutes. Any suggestions?

    nq vs es

Every time I wanted to go back to es, it looks so dead, strange and kinda boring. lol

    nq vs es

Tried scalping nq this week, it seems to be a better choice for scalping than es: limit orders can easily get filled, volatility is good, etc. I planned to trade it occasionally, but I was hooked and haven't traded es for 3 days. It might be too thin for some traders though. Any nq scalpers...

9 PM Sunday and S&P futures already up .23%

It seems normal that the market was the opposite before and after the regular trading hours, at least in the last week.

    Game Over Loss

When I buy a lower high, it often turned out to be a reversal. I have given up buying retracement. But I like the retracement after a big decline like 8+ points, I'm working on this right now, two or three points with a few contacts, one trade a day is enough.

    Game Over Loss

Thanks, I understand the risk. I'm learning to enter a trade after the reversal, and let the profit run a little longer. But overall, I'm comfortable with "buy low and sell high", it's very hard for me to "buy high and sell higher". Adding to losers is a remedy when I failed to buy at real low...

    Game Over Loss

I think I should post a follow-up. After the $1726 loss, I made two big changes: 1. Never add to losers. 2. Always use one or two points stop loss order. Here are the P&L of second half of June: $159 $92 $161 -$99 -$273 $90 $172 -$41 -$1,485 -$963 -$1,470 -$439 $154 $103 The total loss of...

    IB 4x Margin

I think it's 15:40, if you overused your overnight margin, you will get a message to liquidate your positions. You can check it in TWS easily to see if you can hold your positions overnight, go to "Account -> Account Window", if "Special Memorandum Account" is negative, you need to close some of...

    Various ES Traders

Very interesting. Many institutions should have the resource to do HFT if it serves them well, maybe they just want to hedge, or do position trading, etc. and don't care about intraday loss.

    Various ES Traders

It seems that the more I learn, the worse my trading becomes. I think I will either trade well or quit trading in one year, time will tell. I do think about it a lot, just being curious about institution traders.

If I experience it again, I will go long one contract. :D

    Various ES Traders

If over 90% es traders lose, some of them have to be professional and institutional traders. It's unrealistic that so many winning traders live on under-capitalized new retail traders. Not sure why I think about this a lot, maybe because of the books or online articles/discussions I've been...

70 points down gap in the ES....

What's next after limit down? Don't know the rules.

    ES is manipulated?

Actually it can be the other way around, the traders of S&P 500 stocks use es to trade stocks, which affects S&P 500 index. It makes more sense to me that the index follows es.

    ES is manipulated?

Don't understatement the trend followers, you show the muscle, you get more followers than enemies.
