    I'm Short here....

Why? COMPX is down 26 today, Dow down 50-60. Traders tend to go with where the market's going. Today it's been down so far. And that's where it's been easier to make money.

    personal money skills

So having in excess of $1 million doesn't make you a millionairre just because you might be a responsible person with your money and spending? Wake up ... most people in the US have maxed out credit cards, save virtually nothing, etc. The link below says a lot about how people live. And what's...

    I'm Short here....

I think the decline will start next week. Still too many waiting to cheer the earnings this week. I think CNBC said yesterday that bullish sentiment is higher than it was in early 2000. Insider selling is also up quite a bit.

    Anthony's journal

So many of you guys keep ripping the shorts. Hate to break the news to you but there's plenty of money to be made on the short side in this market. Want ideas or examples? Today KLAC was a great short, XLNX carried over from yesterday after it hit an outlandish $45+. Semi's are so obvious to...

    Chasing the momentum: Nasdaq Trading

Those that went short didn't get blown out ... I think anyone who considers themself a trader has to play both sides.

Should we have targets in swing trading?

    It's a no brainer to me ... sure, I'd sell. But ... I'm a trader and not an investor ... 10% in 3 days isn't too shabby.

    SNDK down heavily

You mean overbought, don't you? At least that's how I see it ..

    250K enough to trade with?

Did I say I break even? No ... I take money out of the market each year and start a new year with my basic trading amount (of $70K). And I didn't say I have less capital than Anthony. I have a smaller trading account (by choice). And the rest is rolled into longer term "investments" in the...

    250K enough to trade with?

I just love when new posters come on ET and make such asinine, uninformed and stupid comments (like the above). First, go do the math. If the aspiring trader makes just $75K and has over $50K in expenses he'll not net anything after taxes. Next, I'm not a "putz" who "barely has enough capital...

    250K enough to trade with?

A lot of people don't need $250K to trade and make a living. I know I don't. Then again a lot depends on what expenses a person has. No mortgage, no car payment, no credit card debt makes for a much different scenario than one who has such expenses.

    250K enough to trade with?

If he makes $75K trading a $250K account I'd say he'll be breaking even best case. His bills at $4200/month would be slightly over $50K per year. And after he pays income taxes on the $75K what would he have left? Enough to pay the bills? Does he expect to have kids one day? Kids cost $$$ to...

    AMD Blowout!

Looking forward, AMD said it expects aggregate sales to be down slightly ... just like INTC forecast Q1 to be down sequentially

    AMD Blowout!

I wouldn't call it a blowout ... The fourth quarter results include a favorable impact of $14 million, or $0.03 per share So now you're looking at .06 ... Trading down at or under $17 after closing at $17.38. Better take off your rose colored glasses ...

    money in shorts

It works for me ... besides, I'm a trader, not an investor. Anyone knows the market moves higher over time. And longer term bias doesn't have much to do with a short term horizon IMO. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

    money in shorts

Why not look for the mirror image? If you use charts, when do you buy? When they're oversold? Bounching at the bottom of a Bollinger Band? So why not do the reverse for shorting? Short in overbought situations. Depends on your timeframe also. The market gives us chances most every day to short...

I smell easy money around the corner...

I'd bet against the COMPX being 2400 on 2/9/04. I'm focusing on shorts.

    95% of traders fail???

Exactly, that's what I posted too. That was back when you could throw darts and make $$$. Comparing 1999 to today is comparing apples and oranges.

    95% of traders fail???

I think what defines "proper training" is debatable. We all trade differently (i.e. scalping, position trading, etc.) but in any case discipline is mandatory. The study (above) was from 1999 which was the year the COMPX was up 87% or so. And that year it was easy to make (or lose) a couple...

    95% of traders fail???

I believe the percentage is fairly high, more than 75% IMO. Those that have traded in offices know who's doing well, who's treading water and those who fail. During the years I traded at an office I'd watch guys get into trades, often be stubborn and not sell their losers and 1/4 point losses...

Best prop firm for remote traders

And you can post what you want. First you post about people with no savings, are broke, etc. getting $$$ from a card advance. Now you state people in fact scrape together savings. Which is it? Last, if you don't know that there is a differentiation between "retail" traders and those at prop...
