What's the name of this strategy?

I only know two options strategies: buy calls and buy puts. Now I know what a straddle is. What's an example of a less risky straddle? I'm guessing applying it on a stock with low IV. Bet then if IV is low then the changes of a big win are low.

    Should name droping be allowed?

I agree that in this case it may be okay as the guy seeks publicity and offers but in any other case I think the post should be deleted.

What's the name of this strategy?

Lets say you have a stock like GROW or HANS - a real crazy stock that could easily go up 100% or down 50%. You don't want to predict, so you just buy both the calls and the puts expecting a big move in either direction. One contract will probably expire worthless and the other will be in the...

    Should name droping be allowed?

I'm referencing this thread: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85230&perpage=40&pagenumber=2 I think revealing a persons name, number, and address on an anonymous board with likely trolls and stalkers should not be allowed.

    Trading and Dating

wow funny thread - trading and dating, 2 endevours with a 99% failure rate. think about it, what are the odds of you making millions from trading - about 1%. and what are the odds of you finding life long true love from dating - about 1%. "Every woman adores a fascist," wrote Sylvia Plath...

which energy company most closely tracks Oil prices?

Good point. I only have experience with equity options and I have no experience with options on futures so I'm just trying to stick to what I'm familiar with. Are options on crude oil futures also subject to the 60/40 tax treatment like futures?

    Who uses Zecco.com

Do they pay interest on balances? If not then there's your 'hidden cost' - they probably make 5% on all deposits. Even IB doesn't pay interest on the first 10k balance so that's like an easy 500 dollars they make a year (hidden cost) for each account.

    Why do you trade options?

I wasn't aware of this. Do you mean options on index futures like ES/YM/etc.?

    Why do you trade options?

If I'm buying calls/puts - then the worst that can happen is that the contract expires worthless. So the exactly amount of risk is limited and known right from the start. No use of stop loss orders required. I think you only have unlimited risk if your selling calls/puts which I would...

Another One Bites The Dust - Resume Help

You're lucky you have IT background. IT is still hot right now and there are plenty of sleazy consulting firms that will build up your resume, find references for you, and get you placed in a well paying job so that they can collect the placement fee. If they don't place you into a permanent...

    Why do you trade options?

The way I see options is changing. I actually think for a new guy with say 25k, even if he can avoid PDT rule - he's better off with options. That way he can build a diversified portfolio - instead of risking too much on too few positions and he can hold longer for the really big wins.

    Why do you trade options?

I'm mostly a futures trader primarily because I really don't have an account big enough to buy 100 shares in like 10-20 companies that would comprise a very well diversified portfolio - although that's how I eventually want to trade - risking a little on each position in a portfolio with a lot...

which energy company most closely tracks Oil prices?

I want to get long oil but thru options. Since I can't buy options on USO and XLE/OIH really doesn't track the price of oil that well, I'm wondering if there is an energy company you guys are aware of that does closely follow the price of oil?

    IB Charts - upgrade requests

IB's interactive poll is like a joke. I'm not saying they shouldn't be clearly open to suggestions from customers but it just such a slow process to work on one often times obvious suggestion after another. If IB really wants faster improvements in any arena (such as charts) all they need to...

3 jobs that can give you 6 figures salary

Pekelo, this thread is a bit misleading. It makes it seem that the financial sales is the industry to be to make the big money in when in fact its the worst - highest turnover rate, highest stress, lowest base salary, etc.. There's a tremendous hurdle to overcome before you make over 6 figs in...

    Seeking mentor will pay

There's a definite trend nowadays of ex poker players moving into trading. Seeking a mentor is the smart thing to do cause when a new trader tries to go about it alone up against pros he usually ends up losing a lot of time and money. But most really profitable traders won't mentor anyone...
