The silliest bet in history - long S&P puts?

Going up or down over daily/weekly/monthly time frames is not a 50/50 deal. Looking at the S&P chart of the last 12 years shows clear trends up and down. The down move in 2008 was much faster than any up move. And since the bottom in March 2009 moves down have been limited in time and...

The silliest bet in history - long S&P puts?

Try shorting S&P puts month after month and see how long it takes to blow out your account. Traders don't have enough capital to survive the big drops and IV explosions.

PFG - What happens if you have accounts with them??

Forced liquidation of all PFGBest's customers positions. "Customers of embattled futures and currency brokerage PFGBest saw trades held with the firm liquidated Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter. All open trading positions held by clients of PFGBest were to be...

PFG - What happens if you have accounts with them??

This not "yet to lose a penny due to a US FCM failure" is nonsense. Money has a time value, forced liquidations cost money, paying lawyers to get your money back costs money and not being able to trade your account for weeks/months costs money. I am reposting (again) what I posted on June 16...

    IB Bonds

The normal bond quote in the US is a clean quote. The exceptions are: Defaulted bonds trade flat. They aren't paying, so there is no accrued interest to be had. PIK bonds trade with accrued PIK coupon in the price. They drop in price on the coupon dates.

NEW story about Penson/Apex. Worth a read for those that clear thru Penson.

"On June 7, shortly after the deal between Peak6 and Penson completed, TradeKing was told that the firm would need to send Apex an additional $13 million to back up trades, vastly outstripping TradeKing's prior clearing deposit of $100,000, according to court documents filed by the firm. That...

IBEX35 Sept 2012 Future at MEFF

Very little trading in that contract. Only 94 contracts traded today at the open. Everyone is trading the June 2012 contract with 21,849 contracts. Just go to the exchange website and look at the data. PS - Your broker is a useless moron.

Impossible to run strategies on IB unreliable equity data?

There is nothing wrong with IB snapshot data for the normal IB customer. If for some reason you require tick data then you have to pay for 3rd party data. TWS works fine for order entry. If you don't like TWS there are a number of 3rd party front ends that connect to TWS using the TWS API.

Just "Lower Manhattan" ? The picture was taken at the intersection of Wall and Broad looking West on Wall St to Trinity Church. They are at Federal Hall on the platform in front of the statue of George Washington. Across the street is the NYSE. Another picture of the same event looking...

Penson - What's this all about?

Yes, I am sure. Yahoo and those other websites are all wrong. First, as I already stated: "Look at the SEC Schedule 13G filings for PNSN. Peak6 has never even filed as a 5% PNSN holder." Second, look at the Peak6 13F-HR filings. The Penson holding is clearly marked as principal...

Penson - What's this all about?

Peak6 is not "currently the largest individual shareholder of Penson Worldwide with approximately 16.5 million shares." Look at the SEC Schedule 13G filings for PNSN. Peak6 has never even filed as a 5% PNSN holder. The largest holder of PNSN stock is T. Rowe Price Associates with 2,817,865...

Penson - What's this all about?

LOL. You get your information from Yahoo Finance? Peak6 does not own "more than half Penson". Look at the SEC Schedule 13G filings for PNSN. Peak6 has never even filed as a 5% PNSN holder. The largest holder of PNSN stock is T. Rowe Price Associates with 2,817,865 shares.

Penson - What's this all about?

Penson management hasn't in the past been looking to sell the clearing business. They had been in expansion mode until Summer 2011. It was only September 2011 they sold the Australian clearing subsidiary and put the Canadian and UK subsidiaries up for sale. The UK subsidiary was closed in...

Penson - What's this all about?

It is the parent firm that is broke, not the operating clearing firm. There is no reason the Penson clearing business can't be sold as is to a willing buyer for a lowball price. No liquidation of the operating clearing firm required.

Penson 10-Q released yesterday (May15). Any thoughts on it?

Just look at the balance sheet. Stockholder equity is only $28.5 million. Other assets total $76.3 million. This makes tangible stockholder equity a negative $47.8 million. It is now obvious that the parent company is broke. Penson Worldwide had to borrow $5.5 million from Penson Financial...

Penson - What's this all about?

What a load of hogwash. The only reason that the Broker Dealer Penson Financial Services has any capital is because the parent company Penson Worldwide has $280 million in debt. The parent company is now broke and has no resources to service the debt. In late April the Penson Worldwide...
