    Wash Trade (Wash Sale) question:

There seems to be a bit of confusion. Assuming your do not qualify for mark-to-market rules here is some info from your friends at the IRS: Wash Sales You cannot deduct losses from sales or trades of stock or securities in a wash sale. A wash sale occurs when you sell or trade stock or...

    Wash Trade (Wash Sale) question:

Yes. The rule applies for a 30 day window if you have a loss. If you are in and out the same day and end each day flat and have made a profit on the symbol you traded and the last sale was a profit you have no wash sale carry-forward. The 30 day window does not apply. If you...

Yes. You must talk to Customer Service. Then sign a waiver releasing IB from all liability, etc. I use the device myself. There is at least one other thread here on ET which discussed opting out. Jack

Just received my IB Secure Device.. Here's how it works

Not precisely true. It has been an option for years and until the last few months was just used to authorize money movement. Use of the device to log into accounts is a recent feature and is not optional. Now you must opt out, rather than opt in. Jack

    TWS down ??

IB had some serious server issues about a year or so ago. They do have redundant servers, etc., and sort of explained the problem they had. I forget what it was. Then when they went to the "fix" they had further problems when the system went down and more than 1024 people tried to re-log in...

    IB data feed

I did address that issue I said: Lost opportunity in a $20K account might be $500, in a $100K account $2K It is a function of account size. Professional traders don't all start out with gobs of capital. If we are to treat trading as a business then we have to have a start-up business...

    IB data feed

OK, let's forget the capital cost to put some redundancy, etc. in place. Let's just consider that the infrastructure you recommended costs $12,000 a year to maintain ---- You can use IB's time-sliced non-lagging datafeed at no cost. Your order entry is automated such that protective...

Filing Taxes as an Active "Day" Trader

How many years back do the losses go? You can deduct up to $3,000 a year in capital losses against current income (typically the income shown on your W-2 for that year). The rest of the losses are carried forward. Let's say you started trading last year and lost $7,000 in trading...
