better late than never I guess

same here, I got about 10 emails yesterday that they were looking into some suggestions I posted last year. For all I know, this could just be a bug in their tracking system that sent out default messages.

    IB ActiveX

nitro, Yes, i understand. I just noticed that the code seems to depend on the TWSSocketClient.lib so I couldn't immediately figure out if that was some sort of support class that was required or just a compiled version of the socket client. I'll have to look at it in more detail. Worst case...

    IB ActiveX

it appears that it's possible to interact with TWS via sockets alone. Have anyone looked into that ? Personally, since I use Java, that would be much easier than having to call the activeX component.

    Flat Screen CRT Monitors?

My 19" flat sony trinitron is terrific. Got it with a Dell system about a year ago My 21" sony trinitron is also very good, but contrast is not as good as the 19". If you can afford it, get an LCD. My LCD (ViewSonic) is by far the best monitor I have and as I upgrade and/or replace the...

IB Stops not going "dark blue"

Sorry to start this again, but this week I've had the problems that my stops only go "light blue" (which means that the order has been transmitted but not accepted), and not "dark blue" (which means accepted). This happens for all destinations (NYSE,ISLD etc). If I log out and back in, the...

    Trading Magazine

Amen! same here. I read the magazines mostly for entertainement. On occation they will have good stuff. * activetrader has had a good series on tax by Green * Ehlers cycle stuff in TASC was excellent * futures mag used to have ruggerio with new ideas so you always get a bit of something...

    Beating Buy and Hold

I don't really want to come across pushing Boucher's wares, but he has a proven trackrecord as a hedge fund manager. He even made it to the top of Nelsons Money Manager ratings a few years ago for 5 year compound returns (if I remember correctly). His models are simple and make sense. That's all...

    Beating Buy and Hold

it actually covers the entire investment spectrum, but in particular has good models for S&P, NDX, bonds, gold and a good seciton on asset allocation across asset classes.

    Back Testing....."Paradoxically" Speaking

I think it's really pretty simple: A system that show profits during backtests may continue to produce profits. A system that show losses during backtest is highly unlikely to show profits moving foward. So backtesting is more about eliminating strategies that do not work, than attempting to...

    Beating Buy and Hold

I guess i forgot the smilie :) Boucher's methodology is the only one I've found the appears to actually work. While I don't trade any of his systems, the ideas are close to what I do and have had success with.

    Beating Buy and Hold

I really don't want to give out any secrets, but since you ask. GEt the book "the hedge fund edge" by Mark Boucher. It's full of very good long term SP systems with very good performance characteristics. I've traded similar stuff since 1997 with my investments and have beaten the S&P every year...

    Bullets

Since I never use Bullets, that may disqualify me from answering :) Remember that these special products often are "pushed" by the pro firms who make money selling them to you. I'm sure there are cases where a bullet would make a short easier to get off, but I have rarely had any problems...

    Trading Simulators- Worth it?

Splat, I suggest that you simulate with market orders only. Reason is that it's very difficult to simulate e.g. LIMIT and STOPs correctly. You are not guaranteed a fill at the limit, and stops behave differently depending on exchange, where the order sits (your computer, at the brokerage, at...

Using a trading system to daytrade

splat, it is certainly possible to trade the markets with mechanical strategies. I do every day. The trick, however, is that you really cannot code anything remotely close to the minute by minute skills you learn over time. So I suspect that I will gravitate more and more towards tape-based...

    Price improvement on minis??

for stocks (which I trade) I use market orders virtually all the time and generally see slip of 3 to 5 cents a share compared the time I let the order go. Sometimes I get price improvment, sometimes not. I'm 100% convinced that IB doesn't trade your order around.

    Price improvement on minis??

.25 is the min tick size for ES, so giving up .25 is what you should expect at the minimum.
