Where top traders trade" - battrader

ProTrader has open houses all the time. I went to one. I found it interesting and got a good view of their software, commission structure etc. They ran a half hour video of one of their traders using the software. I found that very valuable. They'll even serve you dinner, so what do you...

S&P futures, fair value, & program trading

Stevet, I don't believe that's correct: Premium ($PREM) is the difference between the front month futures SP contract and cash (tick by tick) Fair Value is a daily value that indicates what premium SP should trade at today, given time to expiration, expected S&P 500 dividends and current...

How to know when youre not cut out for this?

One more thing: read the book "Fooled by Randomness". With the large number of people trading and/or day-trading, there are bound to be a significant number of highly profitable traders simply by luck. I'm not saying that there is no skill involved, but even if every trade was random some...

How to know when youre not cut out for this?

Janko, We all know that you cannot learn the play the piano over a week-end. After a year of practice you may play well but you're likely not able to put on a concert (and to get people to pay to hear you). Same thing for becoming an engineer, doctor, lawyer, athlete etc. ... it simple takes...

When I requested the info I received a message saying that the managed acct info would be available in August. I'm sure their "well informed" support staff haven't been clued in yet

    Virus question

Just a followup. I've succesfully fixed an infected system by booting norton AV from CD and removing the virus before the system/virus had a chance to boot.

which is best the direct access broker

Newtrader101, hmm, all but one of your posts refer to pointdirex. Advertisers should contact Baron. If you continue to promote PointDirex in every post, I'll have to remove your posts from this thread.

which is best the direct access broker

I went through the same decision process. I switched to Interactive Brokers about a year ago. Haven't regretted it.

    IB Downtime

PuffyGums, Do you have a list of servers to use? Couldn't find it in the docs, but maybe I just haven't looked hard enough.

    TICK and PREM

Followup to prior post. Maybe that's the issue then. I thought $PREM was the difference between the futures and cash, and not futures and fair value. www.programtrading.com defines prem as I did, but if it's relative to FV, that would explain some of it.Todays FV is 0.95

    TICK and PREM

Does anyone know how this work with esignal. I've never been able to make any sense of their $PREM. Here is an example from a few minutes ago: SPX=900.94 ES = 902.25 (difference = 1.31) $PREM = 103 What gives ?

7/14 LA Times Magazine article titled "Failure"

Well said ! Having been both a researcher (mathematics) and an entrepreneur (started a few companies), I've found that it's extremely useful to look at failures and mistakes simply as "data". That is, I now know what other approach/business etc. doesn't work. That is exactly one of the...

    Question for don

Firing a volunteer :) What has the world come to  Seriously, if you don't like the trading office you'd be trading at, why consider joining? On a personal note: I was on the phone with Don four about 30 mins or so around that time. I found him insightful and excited, and until...

    Question for don

It's probably true that you cannot trust anonymous reviews much. Do what I did ... go visit a Bright office un-announced, and see their computers, overall atmosphere, how they treat you etc. I met some real jerks (this was after the close, btw) with serious attitude and it was a deciding...

What do you do to keep track of trades for taxes? (trading thru IB)

I have submitted summaries on a per-security basis. My accounts have done that for 5+ years and it's never caused any audits. I obviously keep all the details, should the IRS ever want to see it.

What do you do to keep track of trades for taxes? (trading thru IB)

Nope. Nothing to do. It matches trades on a last-in first-out basis. That works well for how I look at my positions.

    Sorry for nonprofessional question ...

Simplest way I know would be to calculate (price-price(n)/price for all the issues and the e.g. $ndx. That shows you how much prices have advanced over 'n' bars on a relative basis. Then just pick the highest values, assuming that's what you want to do. This has nothing to do with RSI...

Is the market one huge ponzi scheme?

I wasn't clear in my post above. I was referring specifically to the IPO process. I've probably spent too much time around VCs :) I saw many cases of where companies were "dressed up" with the help of analysts, the media etc., and where management sold a significant part of their stock on the...
