Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

I run a few scans- NR7, NR7 ID, NR4 ID, and NR7-2 (2 NR7's in a row). There is some duplication, but right now, I am trying to get a good handle on the patterns, and why some may work better. Some elements that the scans have in common are that price needs to be above the 50 and 200 day...

Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

Inandlong, I could give away all the "secrets" that I have learned over the years, and teach all of the edges that I have gained, and most folks out there would still lose money. Bear in mind that I am not criticizing, because I am far from a super trader, or whatever- but I am now...

Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

The thread is starting to really hum- this is neat. I aso have NTMD on my list for tomorrow, along with GPRO, CTSH, and AMX. These are all NR7's, with CTSH and AMX pulling back to support. Good luck to all. Regards, Kevin

Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

Inandlong, Thanks for the kind comments. I'm still trying to make these scans work, but I'm facing tough market conditions right now. Opportunity will come soon enough. I will try to post the results of tonight's scans later (running TC 2000). Regards, Kevin

Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

I don't trade intraday, but buy with stops ($0.25 above the previous high). For Thursday NR setups- AKAM- NR7 after an NR7 ID yesterday, LGF- NR7, MLI- NR7 ID, TASR- NR5 ID after yesterday's NR4 ID, and TZOO- NR7 ID. I've had some level of recent success with the NR set up's, imagine...

Classic Geometric Patterns and Narrow Range Setups

I will try to post a pic, but I have recently been scanning for NR7 ID and NR4 ID's. Also trying to scan for NR7-2, which would be 2 NR7's in a row. Currently watching- TRMB (an NR7), TASR (an NR4 ID), and BMHC (an NR7). If anyone can suggest a site to get HISVOL, it would be appreciated...

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

How about Alan Farley? Some would argue that his book is hard to read, but I think that it's pretty good. He writes alot for The Street.com, and his writing style has gotten better. His online course is pretty clear and easy to understand, too. I do not know what his annuals returns are...

    Van Tharp and Mark Douglas

This is becoming an interesting thread- it has prompted me to go back and re-read Douglas's books with more discipline after I complete Tharp's course. Has anyone read "Mindtraps" by Roland Barach, and care to comment on it? Kevin

    Van Tharp and Mark Douglas

db, That's fair. Van did get taken by one of his "Supertraders", and that's unfortunate for sure. I do see merit in both guys work- but perhaps I need to read Douglas again, I may skimmed it too much. Thanks for the comments. KT

    Van Tharp and Mark Douglas

I have read works by both- I agree that Tharp tends to apply to more mechanical traders, while Douglas is a little more vague. I am working through Tharp's Peak Performance course, which is oriented towards a lot of the psychological issues, so I may need to comment more, later. Tharp IS a...

    How old are you?

I started trading in the summer of '99, at age 43, 46 now. made lots of money- this is so easy, this trading thing. Then came 2000. Lost lots of money, crushed one small trading account. Learning, and starting to become profitable, and consistent (swing trade daily bars). Kevin

Is a passion for trading essential for success?

Passion? Perhaps. Commitment, yes. Disclipline. yes. Hard work, time, dedication, etc., are all needed. For me, I call it passion, but you might interpret the word differently. I feel that you can be passionate about something, and still have a life (family, freinds, etc). You can be...

    Turtletrader- Long-term Trend-Following

Guys, I am primarily a swing trader, but would prefer to trend follow when a trend is present. I have read a little bit about the turtle methodology, but would need to lear more before being able to evaluate it. Can you provide any information that I should look at? Kevin

Guys, I hate to ask a newbie question- what are "curbs"? I haven't heard the term before. Kevin

    Friday's action

Chas, Disturbing in what way (to you)? I saw Friday as a return to the continued selling, after a couple of days of bottom picking and/or short covering. On Thursday, the QQQ rose, then sold off. That weakness should have predicted Friday's downslide. Your thoughts? Kevin
