sad to hear. i had plans on using IB to backtest future systems. does anyone have any suggestions on a good service which provides a lot of historical tick data (years hopefully), and keeps up to date.

anyknow know what the min account balance i should have before approaching prime brokers? will there be a significant improvement in commis, spreads, liquidity and execution speeds over IB?

or if you are really tricky. teach the computer the basics of learning. and let it figure out successful techniques on its own. in that case the system will obviously be limited by the size and the specifics of the grammar you give it. not that i personally do that.. yet.. for now I just play...

very few people other than you have been telling him to trade by hand first. iv never traded by hand, i never will. and so far its been working out quite well for me. i get the edge of approaching trading from a completely different angle than every other hand trader.

the whole idea of position sizing seems a bit flawed to me. ignoring the idea of scaling in or out. if a TA gives you the size of the position that should be originally taken, that could be considered a confidence indicator. rather than having the position size proportional to the confidence...

not everything is scalable. if you trade at 100% win rate, but only trade once a day making 100$ a trade. you are below the poverty line.

having all your capital in dollars unhedged is pretty much the same as taking a 100k long position on forex and holding it forever. hedging removes that risk but also eats capital. its a tradeoff. rather than waste capital on hedging, I just keep it in a currency I have faith in, which is...
