I know nothing about this particular stock market. For markets in general the consensus is often wrong and if the consensus is overwhelming it is almost certainly wrong!

When the S&P 500 is above the SMA(200). At least I do something very similar to this in my 401K. In my active trading I also do something similar but on a much shorter timeframe.

Thanks for responding. That's all any of us are trying to do ... and wow! I think I would have a hard time handling 5 figure swings on a daily basis, but then my account is not big enough that I have to worry about that just yet. I'm still getting used to 4 figure swings. At least I'm headed...

I am familiar with it and use a variation of it in my 401K, where I can only trade monthly. Helped me avoid bigger losses in 2008. Was a little late back in last year but I trade actively in other accounts so don't mind being conservative with my 401K.

[B] ... and back to the original question. I know of some very good strategies that did poorly during the worst of the bear market but then went right back to making significant profits after. Rather then throwing these away to look for the elusive strategies that do well in all cycles...
