IB customers lose $88m trading WTI crude

Obviously the margin requirement should scale up whenever the position size is large relative to volume. If you own 1 contract, that's easy to liquidate, so $8000 margin per contract If you own 1,000,000 contracts, that's hard to liquidate, so maybe $40,000 margin per contract. IB only takes...

IB customers lose $88m trading WTI crude

Maybe somebody did it on purpose to freeroll IB. Get a big long position at one broker, get a big short position at another broker, and then any big move either way makes one account go negative. Then you cash out the other account and move to Bermuda.

    TWS feature wish list

    1. A field that shows each position's contribution to my margin requirement. 2. Highlight the bid when my bid is the best bid. 3. Let me configure the "Set lmt price" hotkey to do different things depending on whether I use it on a buy order or a sell order. Currently I have it set to ask-0.001...

portfolio margin account, how to avoid margin call ?

Keep your net liq value at least 4SD above maintenance margin and set liquidate last on anything that ever has a wide bid-ask spread. I got burned one time when IB liquidated an option position with a market order instead of just delta hedging it or selling something else. Net liq value <...

Is there a way to make my bond bids on IB auto-cancel if either I get outbid or the ASK comes down to less than $3 above my bid?

    CHK bankruptcy arb?

Why is chk 6.625 Aug15'20 trading about double the price of chk 5.75 Mar15'23? IB says they're both unsecured (identical details except dates & coupons) and bankruptcy is imminent so the dates & coupons should be irrelevant afaik...

2.3Trillion from the Fed... Why you want to fight against it?

This is the biggest dead cat bounce since 1930. Virus is here to stay for a year and a half. So is the lockdown. US privacy laws prevent effective contact tracing, and compliance with stay at home orders is much lower than east asia. China just barely eliminated it with totalitarian measures...

    Corporate bond price chart sites

What's the best site for looking up charts of corporate bond prices? Cbonds looks really lame - no labels on the axes.

No, but I suppose I could infer it from different issues by the same company having different credit ratings.

    indicating senior vs subordinated bonds

Is there a layout field that will show whether a bond is senior or subordinated? the "bond features" field doesn't seem to cover it (yet).

Or maybe the DTCC handles splitting up coupons so there's no additional counterparty risk arising from the chain of custody. Does anybody know?

    Shorting the VIX

I once bought some OTM long dated calls on SVXY. Based on historical stats it was approximately a 50% chance to ~4x my investment and 50% to lose it all. I lost the coin flip because it was a week before the Volageddon of Feb 2018. But it was a good trade. I only regret doubling down when it...

Any legal way to arb or pair trade into a Roth from an Traditional IRA or Taxable Account?

"In 2008, the IRS issued Revenue Ruling 2008-5, in which it addressed the question of whether the wash-sale rules apply to IRAs. In this ruling, the IRS explained that when shares are sold in a non-retirement account and substantially identical shares are purchased in an IRA within 30 days, the...

Any legal way to arb or pair trade into a Roth from an Traditional IRA or Taxable Account?

If you lose the coin flip you end up with more money in the taxable and less money in the roth. So there's no EV to be gained by this.

    against accrued interest payments

https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/accrued-interest-why-do-i-pay-when-i-buy-bond/ This seems like a bad custom because it creates a lot of unnecessary counterparty risk that persists for up to a year after the trade. Anybody who owns the bond after you might default when it's time to...
