VIX Skew - Market Collapse Impending?

Good Stuff, thanks. I wonder if it is any more telling than say a put/call ratio metric... or if the two are simply correlated. Any thoughts?

VIX Skew - Market Collapse Impending?

The two examples you show make it look tempting, however, is there any way you could maybe plot out the historical IV % skew spread on the front month over all of the historical periods between the dates? I think that would make a much stronger argument for the case you are making whether...

    Machine Learning Trading Based Tutorials

A few posters have requested interest on how to build various machine learning based stock systems (neural nets, classifiers, trees, etc.). I have started to put together various tutorials so that you can build these systems with mostly free OS (minus excel) tools. I don't plan on giving...

Anyone tried Cryptohippie to mask your IP address while surfing the internet?

Cookies cleared. I don't know enough to confirm the earlier post about java leakage, but I can attest that I've experienced sites that recognize your IP regardless of independent proxies. I'm still not sure why, but that behavior makes me concerned about how well proxies mask identity.

    Computer won't boot..

Well what do you know. Glad to hear it worked out. I would've likely tested the PSU with a DVM, but swapping is always a good method if you've got a spare. The last time I had a PSU die, it got a surge that went right through the surge protector and it was dead as a door nail. On top of that...

    Computer won't boot..

Scat, Everything you describe point to a fubar MB. If you are hearing a beep on the motherboard and getting a visual color change on the monitor, you are certainly getting power to the MB. If you wanted to be more thorough, you could get a DVM and test the PSU outputs, but I'm doubting...

Wall St. 2 "Money never sleeps" trailer

Maybe a mod should merge this and the earlier chit chat thread (doesn't really matter where), since they are redundant and both show enthusiasm. I've already expressed I can't wait to see it.

Wall Street 2 trailer is out!

Sorry, that's the simple logline attached to the movie. Don't think you could avoid knowing it, as the commercials will emphasize those points. Most definitely worth seeing!

Wall Street 2 trailer is out!

This film is about his redemption. He becomes the good guy to get his daughter back (son committed suicide). His battle is against a modern corrupt wall street, and the bad guys are the new breed of hedge fund villains. It also takes place before the 08 crash, which he warns of in the film...

Verification of systems using Long/Short success

Just about any system that is tested over a relatively long time frame will do better with a long bias, because of the market's upward drift (as mentioned by Mike). That being said, you could try to filter the system to operate with more of a long/short bias, depending on the type of regime you...

Bob Prechter moves to "aggresive 200% short signal"

It's possible that his calls are worse than throwing darts. I think there is actually a negative bias. Of course that depends on how you tally results. If you count a market meltdown call at the bottom of 03 as being valid having been realized five years later, the statistics might change.:D

Force index Too GOOD to be TRUE ???

His visual scheme appears accurate. The question about too good to be true needs to be visited with a fine microscope as macro visual appearances can often be misleading. It is pretty simple to plot an almost identical chart in EXCEL and verify for yourself. Also you have to be very...

    Bernanke Vote

Is it just me or is there some type of timing to rush the vote out just as the market closes? Cloture Done. Looks like a shoe in. Thoughts? Here's your chance to predict before the fact. My intuition says, he's in and market bounces up (I expect to be at least half right).:D He is...

How to connect a TV to a PC ?

What hardware connector is driving the TV? You said you are literally switching, is it DVI? The first question is to look at whether you have sufficient hardware to drive/connect all three simultaneously (in which case software control is possible). If not, you can not do it with software...

How to connect a TV to a PC ?

You could simple buy a card that operates through one of your available PCI or other slots to drive the TV with your connector of choice (RCA/DVI etc). I used to have an older one do this long ago with the RCA connectors. Or if your driver already has built in DVI outputs and your TV is DVI...
