1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

The uk stamp duty raises almost 4 billion euro.. so the french raising a billion isn't unrealistic if they do it properly. However there will be tax lost elsewhere (capital gains, corporation tax etc) so it is going to be hard to say what the actual net amount raised really is.

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Sounds like a stamp tax at 0.1% rate with market makers exempt. Will it apply both to buying and selling, so 0.2% in total, or only when buying? Either way it will be much less than the UK stamp duty which is 0.5%. Regarding credit default swaps and other derivatives, these can be written...

He is clearly getting desperate, he is trying anything to cling on to power. But the article doesn't provide detail: Will Sarkozy try and pass this into law before the elections, or wait until if he is re elected? Will it apply to all types of markets or just stocks? Will it be a full...

I think the UK currently raises about 8billion USD a year from share stamp duty and the bank levy. Does the EU expect the UK to hand this money over to them.. in return for what?

hft 'steals' a few pennies and they want to regulate/licence it, while at the same time they want to introduce a stamp tax that will steal 0.5% from each trade for themselves. Reminds me of that sticker on ron pauls desk

    IB Futures Commissions & Fees

Net costs with IB were really great before ZIRP  The interest they paid covered a large chunk of my commissions. This is one of the reasons why their commissions were always a bit higher than some other futures firms which didnt pay any interest at all.

We not only need to defend ourselves against the FTT. We should also go on the offensive and push a bank levy as an alternative everywhere. I have certainly made this point when commenting on pro european FTT articles on the internet. The banks dont care about us, they will try and push...

Like SIPC Protection? Set Your IB Sweep To Get It.

I think the question is does the 'sweep' operation give the cash derived from a futures 'close out' a new status? ie the same status as freshly wired in funds to a securities account. I dont think there is a definite answer. Could SIPC even deny protection to freshly wired in cash to a...

Everyone is out to protect their own interests. Neither we or the banks want an FTT. We dont want Stamp Duty but the Banks wont be effected much so would rather have that than an FTT. They dont want a bank levy, but we would rather that be introduced instead of an FTT or Stamp Duty. We...

I have been fulltime trading for 5 years, my only source of income has been trading profits during that time. I have a family and home to support.
