What Happens When an Option Expires?

If option is in the money and you're long it, you (or your broker) will exercise it and buy (call) or sell (put) shares at the strike price. If you're short that option, then you will be forced to sell (call) or buy (put) the shares at the strike price. If a long option is in the money by...

    Options behavior in extreme situations

I know all that and that's why I am looking for a specific real-world example. VIX is a good general gauge but it is calculated based on the series of options and won't tell me the IV of 135 vs 130 option. I plugged different IV numbers in a "what if" simulator and 1-2% difference in IV per...

    Options behavior in extreme situations

Does anyone have an experience, notes, or maybe even historical option prices on SPY/SPX before and after big market crashes? I am particularly interested to see how put option prices change when they cross from ATM to DITM and from OTM to ITM overnight. E.g.: On the day one SPY was...

When fundamentally or techically would you use backspeds or straddles?

I trade long straddles (or strangles) on stocks that are about to release their earnings. The idea is to buy a strangle 2-5 days before the release and sell whenever there is a +10% gain or right before the release (for gain or for loss). This position benefits from a possible stock move as...

    closing a butterfly

Seriously?!! The fist thing that one must learn is position sizing and money management. Especially with options. No single trade should make or break your account. I guess you're learning this lesson the hard way.

    Weekly Iron Butterfly on SPY

I know that. Maybe that contributed to the position being down. What about that free webinar? Do you have a link?

    Weekly Iron Butterfly on SPY

You're right, of course. But I never mentioned my returns in relation to time frame. Besides, making avg. 10% return on risk in a week (one trade a week) is more than enough by any standard. The only questions are: is this sustainable or pure luck and what %% of the account should be used for...

    Weekly Iron Butterfly on SPY

Yes, it is small. I am only experimenting with them right now trying to find an optimum trade size and timing.

    Weekly Iron Butterfly on SPY

Yes, I did and it does not look good now (down ~30%). I decided to keep it till Monday. SPY may have some pull-back in the morning and that may bring the trade to break-even or reduce the loss. On the other hand, 3 previous trades produced 22%, 12% and 8.5%, so I am still positive overall.

    Weekly Iron Butterfly on SPY

Hi there! I've been observing weekly options on SPY for a while and I found that there is a very high probability trade in SPY weeklies. On Thursday morning, sell a weekly Iron Butterfly such as 131/134/137 on SPY and close it on Friday afternoon or Monday morning. The typical credit...
