Who is losing money day trading Emini S&P 500

Regarding stops, I've come to the conclusion that stops are NOT the way to go regarding successful trading. I don't really subscribe to the "they know where the stops are and will come after them nonsense." Believe me, I've tried a bunch of those setting up a stop for 1 lot, waiting for it to...

The Rise and Fall of Mechanical Trading Systems

First off, why in the world are you insulting others? Are you an internet tough guy or something? Love to insult people behind the anonymity of the Internet? Secondly, your point isn't even valid. It would be valid if his experiment was based on some sort of subjective behavior, opinion, or...

The Rise and Fall of Mechanical Trading Systems

Great stuff, this will sure be interesting! I'm a discretionary trader so I really don't know how any mechanical system would ever work, but with an open mind, i got to say that i just don't know, so this will be interesting to see. I have incredible reservations against public systems because...

    Starting a small managed fund

Thanks. What do you think is the most cost effective way to manage a small amount of money for a small amount of people? I've had a lot of success especially over the last 5 years, but in general over the last 10 years trading for my personal account and my close family's account. Now I'm...

    Starting a small managed fund

In this post are your comments in regards to "managed accounts" (unregistered investment advisor) or are you referring the original post and a "small fund?" Why would you need a series 7? I thought if you wanted to become a registered IA, you needed a series 65, and for an unregistered one...

Do you trade E-minis 24 hours or RTH only?

That's the problem, the trading is never good afterhours. Such a blanket statement is obviously an overstatement, but i think it very closely resembles the truth. Most "traders" lose money anyway, but for successful traders, I don't see how it is possible to continuously make good money in the...

    Daily eminis thread

Hello folks, This thread will be dedicated to talk surrounding the daily movements of the eminis, most notably the NQ by me, but others can comment on the other eminis if they wish. I have two distinct trading styles, I mainly trade the ZG on a medium term basis, holding positions for a...

Are people looking at your stops?

The same thing happens to me all the time. Even in different markets like Gold. I swing trade that sucker so we are not talking about 5 or 10 ticks either. I've had stops hit within 10 cents (1 tick) when they are $10 or so away (what's that, 100 ticks). Also, i've been up $20-$35 and watch...

Learning the e-Mini's and have some questions

The arbs will guarantee that they follow each other to a tee. Although, technically they are two different entities and could go their own way. It's just that the arbs don't allow it because they make money on any descrpency between the two. I've heard that during the 87 crash the two...

    Active ES traders

Lol, i get the same feeling. The first clue is assuming that trading 4k round turns means that you're a big shot. I've heard of idiots jumping on the computer with $15k in their account and running it to zero by trading ever few seconds with as many contracts as they can muster. The 2nd clue...

Trade at least once a day?

Do not trade even once per day. Follow this rule as closely as you can, and if you have a good enough edge, you'll turn out just fine.

how you know Gold is NOT a bubble

This statement does not make any sense whatsoever...unless everyone in the world is INSANE except for the person who wrote the quote. Insanity can prevail in the markets at certain times for certain lengths of time, but rarely if ever does insanity prevail in the world for 6 thousand years...

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

Just a quick question to all here, are you guys all system traders, or is there a discretionary trader among you? I only ask because it seems that you all are system traders. The great thing about the markets is that there is a tremendous amount of diversity in the manner that people trade...

    Marketsurfer's bold gold proclamation

This marketsurfer call of $1000, blah blah blah. You do know that anyone who talks like this is not a trader. No one could possibly make money with these type of "calls." This is more like a kid who is interested in guesses, saying $600 before $1000, and then coming back in 4 months to see...

    Three Laws in Trading

Your first two points CANNOT be correct if you assume that people can actually make money trading. The reason is simple: if your two first points are correct, then it means that markets are completely random. That is, no "edge" as most people call it, exists in the market and you believe in...

    How valid is this edge?

What you're trading is an ugly cousin of the martingale strategy. Martingale has you average down at set intervals. For instance you buy X at $50 and you double your position after every 10% decline. Then you simply wait until the investment bounces back and you make X% on your total...

Anyone index trade anything other than US markets?

I trade the NQ/ES during normal trading hours 6:30 to 1:30 pacific time. I'm looking for other index futures from other countries to trade at different times. Does anyone know of any index futures from other countries to trade and at what times? I'm looking for liquidity and length of moves...

    Choosing a trading method/system

you wrote: "My best guess is to just go with the usual indicators..." Well if there ever was a rule to trading, an absolute axiom which i will GUARANTEE is true now and will always necessarily be true, it is that you NEVER want to go with the USUAL anything. If you do the opposite of the...

whats it like to be short into a ramp like that?

If you're stops are getting hit at EXTREMES then your stops are too far away. I'm not sure how you're trading, but stops should be much closer. It shouldn't be getting clipped at the end of an extreme move. In fact i move my stops to breakeven within 10 minutes of entering a trade.

One 100 point winner or ten 10-point winners?

since i always work with the exact same issue. Many times in the past I have moved my stop to break even, only to have the stop be hit, i get out at BE, and the NQ run up or down without me. What i've figured out is that it depends on the quality of the trade. My goal is to make 1-2 trades...
