So, I'm looking at VIX futures data in a spreadsheet...

Oh I see, the settlement price of a day, less the settlement price of a prior day, is listed as the change. I take it that is the REAL economic change, because that would be the price that someone holding the instrument would get if it expired that day? Thanks.

So, I'm looking at VIX futures data in a spreadsheet...

So i'm reading about settlement - like the average price of the contract for the day used for calculating margin requirements. But why the heck is the change in the future not close less open? So weird.

So, I'm looking at VIX futures data in a spreadsheet...

I see there are, among other things, an open, a close, a settle, and a change, in each case for the day. What is really, really weird is that the "change" listed does not seem tot match (at least not in all cases) either the close less the open or the settle less the open. What is going on...

What are the "velocity based" technical tools?

I'm no trader, but recently I've been trying to pick entry points that I might use to buy in. I'm doing pretty good (in my head at least). All I think I'm really looking at is what might be thought of as "velocity" - the market is going down very fast. But then it slows down greatly. At...

Any place to get historic futures prices on VIX?

Is there anywhere to get these? For example, let's say I wanted the daily closing price of the nearest then expiring VIX futures for the last X years. Any idea where I could find this? Free if preferable. Thanks!

Anyone know anything about Excel functions?

I'm trying to back test strategies using Excel. I'm trying to use a column to determine my max draw-down from the high point of my account at any time. Is there a function that might be helpful in this regard? Trying to convert it into logic-speak if the max drawn-down I'm describing is not...

what do discount brokerage firms think about Robinhood?

Reading this thread has me a bit perplexed. Can brokers literally fill their prices at something other than the bid/ask in the marketplace? Can they really fill it at a worse price and keep the difference? Wholly crap that is bad if so. Can IB do this? I don't think they can based on, I...

    The Best Trading Proverbs

He who fish in another man's well, might catch crabs. I think the moral of this one is trade what you know, don't trade what some other guy knows or recommended.
