Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

I resent that. Come the weekend it is perfectly respectable for a trader to substitute one form of addictive behavior for another.

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

I first posted back on 12/29/04 that I thought intermediate bond funds sucked. Specifically VBTIX, which is the sorry assed fund that Fido offers its 401K prisoners. (If they REALLY gave a shit about your financial welfare, they'd offer a fucking BEAR fund.) At that time I thought it was...

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

Liz recently wrote me to point out (as if I didn't know) that I am a truly sick individual. This for sadistically abusing Saint Jack. That is certainly the least of my many faults. Well, I do repent of my sins. Here is a tribute to the Great Man. Why the hell an asset with as many complicated...

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

Pauvre ET! It is so desperate for free enlightenment that the chart in the initial post on this pathetic little thread has been downloaded 623 times! Of course readers quickly learn that I am full of shit, so the most recent chart has only been downloaded 20 times. I know many of you diehards by...

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

Do we have a Hershean FTT in the daily oil slick? Or are channels totally meaningless? I myself have a tank car full sitting in the driveway. The neighbors predictably complain, and I just smile benignly (malign, malignant; benign, benignant?) and tell them I'll be selling it at $80 a barrel in...

I offer the attached chart to all those who think that the big greasy has no influence on stocks after hours.

    Reversal Patterns

Not THAT long, haha! This is totally fucking amazing. My 1 day chart I would interpret as bullish because of the "failed" FTT in August '04 and the BO from the recent consolidation. I would bet on a BO of the upper channel line, haha! Tea leaves! Chicken bones!

    So basically papertrading is...

My only comment is that I think backtesting of VERY simple ideas is the superior way to approach live trading. IMO you are going to lose money from the start no matter WHAT you do, so you might as well trade small with tight stops on no-brainer setups until you get the rhythm of it.

    Reversal Patterns

Of course all my posts are bullshit. Total guesses. But my point is that it is wise to look at the longest timeframe in which it is possible to identify a clear trend, whether that is days or minutes. Go as far back as you have to to draw a trend. Not saying you shouldn't trade short term...

    Reversal Patterns

UTY? A tougher call. I wouldn't count it out yet. Until you get a clear FTT, I wouldn't short it.

    Reversal Patterns

Regarding CYC, it wants to go back and test the breakout around 710. If it fails, THEN it will be bullish. Before that its's bullshit.

    Reversal Patterns

Gart my man. Why do you persist in drawing such short term charts? The smart bet would be express elevator to hell looking at the attached daily chart.

Papertrading is totally pussy. You do and don't do things with real money that the masturbatory self-absorption of paper trading doesn't admit.

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

Quick! Gotta post a chart to keep out of Chit-Chat jail! Is it time to go into furrin funds? Here's GTIIX. Let's see...dollar is up...rates are down...gold is up...oil is up...furrin funds must be up! Huh? Who cares? The wife will believe it!

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

That is probably the most inspiring thing I have ever read on ET. Imagine all the fat slugs who think they'll live forever but will croak tomorrow, but you KNOW you're going to die and will outlive them all because you WANT to! I never expected to live past 55, so I partied like there was no...

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

My God! I didn't know old Pete was still alive. My first management book was The Practice of Management, which a VP gave me in 1972 because he thought I was such a putz. It is truly amazing how management has deteriorated since then. It used to be that the customer was the customer. Now it's the...

Old Possum's Book of Practical Charts

Yeah, well, I made such a big deal with the wife out of going flat on January 4 that I am in a heap of trouble if the market doesn't tank. I haven't traded for two weeks because of training, and won't for the next month or so because of a gig. So I must content myself in the interim with...

    Reversal Patterns

Hard to guess. And it IS a guess. I think the whole market is going to crap after earnings are fully out because earnings were so lackluster. For that reason I am 100% in cash in long-only retirement accounts. But who the hell knows? I don't trade individual stocks because there are too many...

    Reversal Patterns

Take a look at the longer term chart attached. A clear Hershian FTT. I'd bet on it to break down. In fact, I'll risk my status as ET's numero uno surviving technical analist on it.
