Who has connections at Knight?

With this track record in hand you will probably get a look from Knight but I suspect it will have to come with some sort of college education. If you don't go to college then be happy with where you are at. The line to get into your current seat goes waaaay out the door. What I wouldn't have...

    Who has connections at Knight?

The unfortunate truth about landing a job in the trading industry is you either have to have an Ivy League education or you need to know someone. I had neither and tried and tried and tried and trie.....ahhh....you get the idea. I never got a job with any trading firm, mutual fund, hedge fund...

What was the biggest ever GAP for the ES in history ?

I remember this like it was yesterday because I had my finger on the trigger to go short. I missed disaster by about 1 second. It wasn't a 52 point gap up, however. It was a 52 point rally. The gap was just a few points but the market took off on a relentless tear. No doubt there were some...

    Futures Margin call

Overnight margins are much higher than intra-day so if you tried to hold 10 contracts overnight on a $5000 account with $500 margins, for example, your broker will liquidate you down to your margin requirements or they will contact you and tell you to wire the funds in to cover the margin...

    Who has connections at Knight?

Go to Harvard or Wharton or U Chicago or Kellogg and put that on your resume. You'll get a call then

    Reducing impact of bad trades.

Just my belief, a trading system that does not use money managment is an inferior system. If the odds go up the contracts go up. That steers you in the direction of having a razor sharp edge but you must have a edge before you ever increase your line.

Dell's "Deals" Not So Good.. Thanks to Vista

I have one Dell PC with Vista on it and it's a piece of shit. The operating system is so unstable you can't run more than one application at a time without the screen flickering, missing DLL's on startup, windows updates lock up the system, there's more but why continue. I'm gonna downgrade...

    Bill Miller on Suicide Watch

Exactly. I'm surprised Cramer didn't come on TV and rip everyone for buying FRE/FNM after he pumped it. He's a raving lunatic.

    Bill Miller on Suicide Watch

I hear what you're saying but there is a big difference between dollar cost averaging (that's a much nicer way of saying it :D ) on a stock like FRE/FNM during a mortgage crisis vs doing the same on a consumer staple like KO, WMT, PG, JNJ, and such. Miller's biggest mistake was stock selection...

    Bill Miller on Suicide Watch

Wow! I don't think increasing his shares on the way down was necessarily his biggest mistake, as much as the stock he did it on. Here we are in the middle of a financial crisis caused by mortgage defaults and he's averaging down on one of the biggest mortgage backers in the world?

Rumor: Bright Trader blows up and loses millions

Enough guys. This comes down to "shit happens." The guy lost a few million. Who cares. If I ran Bright's shop I'd tell the guy to take some downtime and get his arse back when he's ready and make the money back -- that's probably what Don told the guy. All the guy did was lose money...

Ken Fisher, Warren Buffett, Bill Miller...the best are now lost and confused

Exactly. I don't think you'll see any of them posting on ET :D These guys are the best in their respective businesses. If you want to be involved in the markets in the capacity of a trader OR an investor you simply have to be willing to lose money.

Former BSC banker, Harvard grad to teach cupcakes

Because they were never traders to begin with, they are bankers. There is a big difference.

How to build a resume to work as a trader?

Oh, and all the other stuff you mentioned, the CFA, CMT, series 3, etc......won't do a thing for you on your pursuits to become a trader but they certainly will demonstrate how driven you are. I planned on getting all three of those at one point but by the time I was ready to take Level I of...

How to build a resume to work as a trader?

Having U Chicago on your resume will definitely earn you a look but just being smart and graduating from an Ivy League school doesn't mean you'll succeed in trading. If you have the time and effort give IIT a look. They have a decent certificate program that will give you as close to real life...

    Starting/Working for a Hedge Fund

If anyone has a question regarding this thread I'll be happy to answer you through a PM. Listening to people call me a liar and tell me how I'm giving this business a bad name, during a time when the "elite" on Wall Street are bankrupt, has just gotten old.

    Najarian's optionMONSTER InsideOptions?

ha ha, you're probably right. I was my own worst enemy back then but everthing he recommended went south. The only trade I won on that he rec'd was WMT and that was a day after one of the worst Nas days at that time. It was a flight to quality call and he nailed it. I made about 5 points on...

    Is this "scalping?"

ahhh....I didn't catch that. No, you don't want to be taking ticks on large contract sizes. Just come away from it with a better understanding of what you're trying to accomplish. Everyone has to start somewhere. Weed out the good from the bad and avoid the bad. You can do it. Anyone can...

    Najarian's optionMONSTER InsideOptions?

I followed this guy back in the early 2000's before I had a clue and never made a single dime off his rec's. Stay very clear of his service. He is not as smart as he looks on TV.
