    Trading the Brexit...huge IVs

I hope not Options are vastly more complicated than stocks. It's possible to trade them for years and still learn and see new things

    Trading the Brexit...huge IVs

damn...look at the 7-day chain for ES...selling 1850 puts still gives $50/contract ...that like 10% away . I've never seen it so high Also UVXY calls. IMHO selling the calls on UVXY is less risky than selling the ES puts because you have the 2nd month is part of UVXY Interesting to note...

Selling delta 3-5 ES Puts with 40-57 days left

the deltas are the same but the gamma is less because the duration is 170 days, not 30. As the market falls, these puts don't budge as much as the 30 day ones

Selling delta 3-5 ES Puts with 40-57 days left

as someone who has tried this, don't. this method sucks. Them little puts get big real fast. A put I sold 2 weeks ago at was at $1 and went to $3.6 this morning before closing at 2. Even with 2.5 weeks of theta burn on the 51 day options to my advantage, the losses still ballooned over the past...

What is going on with volatility

there is a 10000 word wiki entry about it. it can be summed up more concisely as: hey, let's light the economy on fire bcoz we hate Germany

What is going on with volatility

Germany down 7.5% in 4 days ... I think brexit is pretty close to being priced in.

What is going on with volatility

I did to some extent: I replaced some puts with Nov. 2016 1270 puts to capture the same premium but lower the gamma risk. I pretty much just shifted almost everything by 6 months. Eventually the IV crush will happen when people realize brezxit isn't as bad as realized or it doesn't pass.

What is going on with volatility

the market fell 3% in may but volatility didn't go anywhere near this high. If individual stocks can be manipulated, why can't futures. It's kinda weird to have vix suddenly rally 5% intraday when the market is flat or even rising slightly. This brexit nonsense is overblown . If it passes...

What is going on with volatility

no shit at least I have plenty of $ in other stuff that can;t be as easily eaten up by manipulators. The real money is in real estate anyway . Volatility has surged more in the past five days than even in January. how much more does volatility have to rise for a 'yes' vote to be priced in...

What is going on with volatility

volatility market highly manipulated ..a few firms often collude to force large, leveredged traders out of positions

What is going on with volatility

what a joke this volatility is..the call option I bought on Friday morning is up 2 ticks ($25) despite to price being 10 pts lower Someone or a handful of firms of going balls to the wall on puts. I've never seen anything link this before in years of option trading . 220 day volatility futures...

What is going on with volatility

Vix up 18% vs. Spx only down 1% ..the last time vol made such a huge move realtive to the SPX was on 7/17/2014 when the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crashed. The vix went from 11 to 14 that day; comparatively the SPX only fell 20 pts

What is going on with volatility

vol is so insane today..the out of money ES call I bought this morning is only down a single tick despite the market falling 10pts since then

What is going on with volatility

3-6 month volatility up 12% this week vs. flat SPX...would you say that's not unusual? Put buying does create a downward force on the market but it may have been offset by the strength in the energy sector this week. The fact that the EWU (UK) etf is down 4% in the past two days is evidence that...

What is going on with volatility

All ES profits gone this week on a flat market and VXV also up 13% so for the week vs. flat SPY. It's so stupid how the market is overreacting so much to this. All that will happen is the currencies will change, and the transition will take years and be very gradual.
